BAYERN MUNICH as most people have expected for months added the Champions League crown to the German double won by Hansi Flick but goals were at a premium.
A 1-0 final was a surprise considering the number of goals both have been scoring but chances were missed – by PSG particularly.
The majority of punters will have lost on the night on goals but there were eight cards including Neymar and Thiago Silva and plenty will have been on Bayern on the outright market.
I tipped them after knocking out Chelsea at 6-1 and again after seeing off Barcelona at 3-1 before they were cut right into 1-2 ahead of beating Lyon.

Delighted with the 15/1 punt coming in, also took them as two singles but nonetheless a disappointing final on the night last night. Who knows had Lewandowski’s effort gone in off the post or Mbappe’s miss ended up in the net, then we may have had a bit of an open game.
My other bug bare of the night was VAR, or lack of it. There were three really big penalty shouts in that game. The first one with Coman was for me a penalty (even if nobody else agreed with me) but I can see why it wasn’t overturned by VAR – it wasn’t a clear and obvious error and was one of those that sometimes are given, sometimes they’re not.
Penalty shout number two was where it left me confused. It looked an iffy challenge on Mbappe in real time. The fact that it wasn’t even looked at by VAR gets you questioning what’s the purpose of having the technology if you’re not going to use it. Although I wasn’t too upset it wasn’t given its an absolute stonewall penalty.
Penalty shout number three arguably levelled up the game with it not being given. Again, I’m not even sure it was checked. If a defender lunges in on a player, be it Mbappe or Lewandowski, gets nothing of the ball and makes contact with the players leg it surely has to be a penalty.
The question now is can anyone stop Bayern next season? The way they have played the last few weeks – they’ve been simply unstoppable. You’d have to think Liverpool and City will be stronger next season and both have the credentials to stop Bayern in their tracks for European glory. Rumour has is it that Thiago is heading to Anfield. What a signing that would be!
