THE big winners on the final day of the Premier League were Chelsea, Man Utd, Spurs and Aston Villa as a day that promised much drama never really materialised.
As expected, Chelsea and United secured the remaining Champions League places which left the door open for Spurs to nick in front of Wolves for a place in the Europa League.
Villa went in to the final round of fixtures in pole position to retain their Premier League place and a 1-1 draw at West Ham was enough to cement that position.
And so all that remains to be decided in England is where the FA Cup is destined and which of the four teams vying for promotion to from the Championship will make their return to the top flight. Swansea boosted their chances with a 1-0 win over Brentford in the first leg of their Play-Off and on Monday it's their rivals Cardiff City who will be in the spotlight as they host Fulham in the other tie.
Eight points separated the two sides in the final standings but as Swansea proved, anything can happen in these matches and often it's the team hitting form at the right time that prevails. The bookies make the Bluebirds slight favourites at 17/10 to win with Fulham at 7/4.

Anyway, down to the round of 16 now, and I’m having a wee punt on the Toronto v New York City FC game, that kicks off at 1.30am UK time.
Toronto won their group, but only recorded one win and two draws, scoring 6 and conceding 5 over all 3 games.
NYCFC qualified and third best placed from their group, winning just the one game, whilst losing the other two. They only managed to score 2 goals in three games, and conceded 4.
Personally, Toronto are the better team from what I’ve seen, and with Jozy Altidore due to return from injury, I expect them to win.
I can’t see there being a lot of goals, so rather than just take what I find to be generous odds of 11/8, I’m doubling it up with bet365‘s Bet Builder for under 4 goals, a nice 12/5….

Central Coast Mariners v Western Sydney Wanderers (A-League)
Tonight sees the Mariners host the Wanderers. Both sides have been under performing all season, although Mariners are far and away the worst side in the competition this year. Since the season’s return, Mariners have played 2 games already in the last 6 days, so I would expect some rotation tonight, as there’ll be tired legs in this squad, as playing 3 times in a week is unheard of here.
Wanderers haven’t played a game yet since the season’s return, so it will be interesting to see how they go. In the break, they’ve lost their number one goalie Lopar, as well as coach Babbel, and Janjetovic is unavailable through injury. However the majority of their side remains intact, with de Marigny as their new coach. Wanderers are still in the hunt for a top 6 finals position, as they are 5 points adrift of Adelaide, but have two games in hand.
All the motivation tonight is with the Wanderers, and they are a much higher quality side than the Mariners. I think we’ll see that here. My only niggling concern is their lack of games since the season stopped. I think a Wanderers win is the most likely outcome, but I also don’t think they’ll have it all their own way, with some Mariners players likely being blooded here and looking to prove themselves.
