TUESDAY'S Champions League games lived up to their billing so let's hope for more of the same on Wednesday.
Check out our Real Madrid vs Man City and Lyon vs Juventus and good luck to anyone who tries to match Bayern Munich's brilliant display at Chelsea. And in the Europa League it's Braga vs Rangers and I've posted a preview.
Their 3-0 landed my Bayern and over 2.5 goals Super Single while in the Daily Record my double was over 2.5 goals at Stamford Bridge and both to score at Napoli paying 29-10.
Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski scored as expected but my anytime double was beaten by Lionel Messi failing to hit the target.
However, my both to score treble landed comfortably at 9-2 and my Top Treble landed at reduced odds of 13-10 with Sunderland draw no bet void thanks to their 97th-minute equaliser against Fleetwood.
Well done to all the other winners including Scott with an 11-10 members bet winner.
My Super Single is Braga to beat Rangers as they bid to overcome a 3-2 deficit and I've posted a separate preview.
I fancy Juventus to win but Real vs City looks tough to call with goals likely.
On the domestic front there are seven Championship games including Fulham vs Swansea and Middlesbrough vs Leeds but only Brechin v Queen's Park in Scotland.

A disappointing day at the tennis for me, but a low stakes one so not too much harm done. I needed Tomljanovic to take a set from Muguruza for the 4-fold to land, but she didn’t tuen up that never looked like happening.

It’s another stats based bet for me in this evenings Champions League clash between Lyon and Juventus. I’ve been scouring the betting markets to find some form of value in this tie and although I do believe Juventus will triumph tonight my head was turned when looking at player stats. The player in question is Lyons Belgium centre back Jason Denayer. Bet365 have him at 5/6 for over 45.5 passes. For a player who averages 64.3 passes per game in the French Ligue 1 this initially grabbed my attention. Admittedly the French Ligue isn’t exactly on par with the Europe’s elite competition but even then, looking at his pass completion in the Champions League and you’ll find that it’s still well above the given line at 59.6. Again, maybe this line is set so low due to the fact the come up against one of the best teams in Europe and they may not have as much ball possession? But I’m not so sure about that – Lyon have an average possession of 54.5% in this years Champions League compared to 56.3% for Juventus. It’s not imaginable to think Lyon will have at least 45% possession which should allow Denayer plenty of opportunity to get on the ball.
Both Lyon and Juventus tend to adopt a high-press approach but I’m not convinced Lyon will play in a similar fashion tonight as they tend to open up plenty of opportunity for good counterattacking teams such as Juventus. I think Lyon playing in their own half offers the best solution for disconnecting the Juventus lines. Sustained possessions in the attacking half will only open up opportunities for Juventus to counterattack which Lyon needs to avoid at all costs. When Lyon are out of possession, it’s in the side’s best interest to avoid the high press. The bigger French sides and Champions League opponents have picked Lyon apart in this area, and so will Juventus. While I think you’ll see Lyon look to be proactive at home, long periods of possessions in the attacking half will ultimately fail as Juventus are so strong when getting men behind the ball.
In addition to this Denayers will have Ronaldo to deal with and although Ronaldo is arguably the greatest offensive player in football today, he does tend to stand-off for large periods when the opposition are in possession thus allowing Denayer time on the ball.
All this is of course speculation on my part but given the fact that Denayers passing average is well above the given line and that I expect Lyon to adopt a more cautious approach with longer spells in their own half, I think this bet offers great value.

Agreed Macca and I only stated that Juventus may well have in the region on 55% possession purley based on stats alone. As I have suggested, Lyon may well be more cautious and sit a little deeper than they usually do but that may not have any bearing on possession. Of course, for the sake of my bet I’d love Lyon to have more possession.

Long way off that happening crane. As it stands we’re up to 2 places from 1 and the champions would go in at round 2/3 and the runners up round 1 or 2. One of the good things is, the country directly above us in the standings is Denmark, and if Celtic knock them out then they have no more representatives while Scotland still have 2. Also I think the 2 countries directly below us are Bulgaria and Greece, and the only clubs they have left are olympiakos and ludogorets, both of whom lost at home first leg and are now away to arsenal and inter.
Scotland almost certain to have 2 in CL but not until season 2021-2022.
They will have 2 for certain in CL the season after next, but both will be in the qualifiers. Unless of course both get to the final of EL this season 😃

Bencic was superb today, which didn’t help me out, but could serve me well if I back her against Kuznetsova tomorrow. She has won the last two, and by far more recent, meetings, including a 2-0 win this year, and on today’s showing Kuznetsova will have to play very well indeed to overturn that.
Sabalenka made easy work of the tricky Sakkari in tricky conditions, and she should take care of Zheng, who played a very solid match today but was helped out big time by a passive, frustrated and misfiring Bertens. Sabalenka has been none of those things so far.
Jabeur was impressive as she took out Pliskova
In three sets, and I fancy her to get at least one against Kvitova, who loves three set matches More than anyone on the WTA, and was up and down again today against a very inconsistent Ostapenko. Jabeur brings more to the table than Ostapenko does in current form and 3/4 looks good for her to get at least a set.
