Football Bet of the Day: Stranraer is Saturday’s destination for goals

Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me delve into the Scottish League Two and there’s one fixture in particular that stands out to me for goals.

Two clubs separated by two points and two places in the Scottish League Two table meet at Stair Park on Saturday afternoon, as fourth-placed Stranraer host Elgin City in a match that promises goals.

Stranraer come into this fixture having recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season, as they followed up their 3-2 win over table-toppers Dumbarton by defeating bottom-side Albion Rovers 2-1. Jamie Hamill’s men have now found the back of the net in each of their last seven league fixtures, scoring on multiple occasions in five of those – including in each of their previous four at home. The Blues (18) have the joint-worst defensive record in the Scottish fourth tier and have not registered a clean sheet since the opening day of the season.

Elgin recorded just their second win of the season last Saturday afternoon as they thrashed second-from-bottom Annan Athletic 5-1. Gavin Price’s men have scored in all eight of their league outings this season and are the joint-top-scoring side in the division, having netted 18 times already. The Black and Whites have recorded just one shutout in the league this season and have conceded on multiple occasions in six of their eight fixtures – including in all four of their matches on the road.

Bet of the Day 

Stranraer come into this fixture not only having scored in each of their last seven league matches but scored on multiple occasions in five of them, and there is every chance they’ll score at least twice against an Elgin defence that’s kept just one clean sheet all season and who have let in multiple goals in each of their four league matches on their travels this season.

However, Gavin Price’s visitors are the joint-top scorers in League Two, having scored 18 goals across their eight matches this season, and they too should add to their goal-tally against a Stranraer side that possess the joint-worst defence in the Scottish fourth-tier, having let in 18 goals across their opening nine league outings.
