Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the German Bundesliga and the French Ligue 1 and I’ve picked out the two matches I like the look of for both sides to score.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg
🇩🇪 Bundesliga
⏰ Saturday 14th May, 14:30
Freiburg know they must win at the BayArena if they are to keep their hopes of playing Champions League football next season alive. The visitors are currently fifth, two points behind fourth-placed RB Leipzig, whilst the hosts are third and have already secured Champions League football for next season.
Despite falling behind twice, Bayer Leverkusen secured their third successive win in the Bundesliga, as they defeated Hoffenheim 2-4 in Sinsheim. Gerardo Seoane’s side have lost just two of their last 11 Bundesliga fixtures in front of their own supporters, with them five of their last seven. Bayer have found the back of the net in 29/33 of their league fixtures this season, with only the top-two scoring more than their tally of 78. Die Werkself have recorded just eight clean sheets in the league this season, with neither of them coming against the current top-eight teams in the table.
Freiburg suffered a damaging defeat last time out, as they lost 1-4 at home to fellow European hopefuls Union Berlin to relinquish fourth spot in the table. That was only Christian Streich’s side second defeat in their last 12 in the Bundesliga (other coming against Bayern), with them unbeaten in their last five on their travels. Freiburg have found the back of the net in 27/33 of their Bundesliga fixtures this season and come into this having scored in 11 of their last 12. The club from the Black Forest have let in 10 goals in their last three matches in the league and have recorded just one clean sheet in their last seven away from home.
Lyon vs Nantes
🇫🇷 Ligue 1
⏰ Saturday 14th May, 20:00
Last weekend’s Coupe de France winners Nantes travel to the Groupama Stadium on Saturday evening to take on Lyon. The visitors come into this in ninth position, just one place and one point behind their hosts.
Lyon’s hopes of qualifying for European football for next season were ended last time out, as they lost 3-2 away to relegation-threatened Metz. Peter Bosz’s men have only lost three times in front of their own supporters this season and come into this having won each of their last three in home turf. Not only are Lyon the third-highest scorers in the division, but they have found the back of the net in 31/36 of their Ligue 1 fixtures, failing to score just once at home all season. L'OL have kept just two clean sheets in their last 12 in Ligue 1 and come into this having conceded in each of their last five at home, letting in 10 goals.
After winning the Coupe de France last weekend, Nantes returned to league action in midweek there and came from behind to defeat Champions League-chasing Rennes 2-1. Antoine Kombouaré’s men have now lost just one of their last seven matches in Ligue 1 and that was a 3-2 defeat away to second-placed Marseille. Nantes have been in fine goal-scoring form in recent weeks, finding the back of the net in each of their last seven matches, scoring on 16 occasions. The Canaries have conceded in each of their last nine in Ligue 1 and their only three clean sheets away from home have came against three of the bottom-four.
Bet of the Day
Freiburg know they must win to keep their top-four hopes alive but face a tough task away to free-scoring Bayer Leverkusen. Gerardo Seoane’s hosts have only failed to score four times all season and are the third-highest scorers in the Bundesliga and should at least net against a Freiburg defence that’s conceded 10 goals in their last three matches. Die Werkself have failed to keep a clean sheet against a current top-eight side though, and with Freiburg scoring in 11 of their last 12, I like the look of both scoring at the BayArena.
Lyon come into this having won each of their last three at home, but face a tough test against a Nantes side that’s lost just one of their last seven in Ligue 1. The Canaries have found the back of the net 16 times in their last seven matches and they should net against a Lyon side with just two clean sheets in their last 12. However, Peter Bosz’s host have only failed to score once at home this season and given Nantes’s only three clean sheets away from home have came against three of the bottom-four, there’s a strong chance we’ll see both sides getting on the scoresheet here.
