Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Norwegian Eliteserien and Serie A. I’ve picked a selections from each league which I like the look of to give us a nice odds against double.
Brann vs Viking
🇳🇴 Eliteserien
⏰ Thursday 28th October, 17:00
Viking travel to Bergen to take on Brann at the Brann Stadion in a meeting between two sides at opposite ends of the table. Brann come in to matchday 24 occupying the relegation playoff spot, whereas Viking are in 4th, behind Rosenborg in 3rd spot on goal difference.
Brann earned themselves a point last time out as they drew 3-3 at Odd, stretching their unbeaten run in the Eliteserien to six games. Also at home, Brann have lost just one of their last seven matches and have scored in each of their last 10. Brann have actually scored in their last 13 successive matches, scoring 22 goals. They do struggle defensively though, with only Stabæk conceding more than their tally of 44 goals. Brann have only kept two clean sheets all season and have conceded in each of their last 15 Eliteserien fixtures.
Viking’s 5-1 demolition over Lillestrøm at the weekend means it’s now three wins in a row for the Stavanger based club. They’ve also won seven of their last 10, with only champions Bodø/Glimt defeating them. Viking are amongst the top four goalscorer’s in the Eliteserien, scoring 47 times. They’ve only failed to score three times this season, with them scoring in each of their last 15 league games. They have one of the leakiest defences in the Eliteserien though, conceding on 41 occasions and keeping only one clean sheet.
Napoli vs Bologna
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Thursday 28th October, 19:45
Napoli will look to return to the top of Serie A as they host Bologna at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Napoli have dropped to 2nd following AC Milan’s win over Torino on Tuesday, whereas Bologna lie in 10th position.
Napoli’s 100% start to the Serie A season was ended at the weekend as they drew 0-0 with Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the Derby del Sole. However, that was Napoli’s sixth clean sheet in the league with five of them coming in their last six games, and they have by far the best defensive record in Serie A, conceding only three goals. Napoli still have a 100% home record in Serie A, in which they’ve scored seven goals, with Alvaro Morata the only opposition player to breach their defence. All eight of Napoli’s win in Serie A have seen fewer than five goals, with all four home games seeing fewer than four.
Bologna put in a brave display against AC Milan at the weekend, coming back from two goals down to level up the game despite being down to 10 men, only to lose it late on after going down to nine men. Bologna have now only won one of their last six Serie A matches and remain winless on their travels. Bologna lost both meetings with Napoli last season and they have a poor recent record in Naples, losing on six of their last seven visits.
Bet of the Day
Both Brann and Viking are at opposite ends of the table and are fighting against relegation and European places respectively. Both sides are on a good run of form and have been scoring freely. Both these sides have kept a combined total of three clean sheets in 46 matches and given the sheer amount of goals they’ve scored and the confidence they’ll have coming into this, we should see plenty of goals here with both sides more than capable of contributing. Napoli have made a near perfect start in Serie A but Luciano Spalletti’s side need a win to return to the top of the league. They should do so against a Bologna side with one win in their last six and who are still winless on their travels. Napoli have been solid defensively, conceding only three goals and given that all eight of their Serie A wins have seen fewer than five goals, I’m happy to through that in once more.
