Euro 2024 Bet of the day

After a quiet start to the week on my behalf, The Football Bet of the Day returns on Thursday and sees me focus on the European matches, and one side in particular appeals to me for goals.

⚽️ Rangers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 vs Sparta Prague 🇨🇿

🇪🇺 Europa League

⏰ Thursday 9th November, 20:00

It’s another huge European night at Ibrox for Rangers as they play host to reigning Czechia champions Sparta Prague in a fixture that I’m keen to back the rejuvenated hosts to grab a couple of goals.

It’s been a mixed start in Group C for Rangers, as their opening night impressive 1-0 victory at home to group leaders Real Betis was followed up by a disappointing 2-1 loss in Cyprus against Aris – but they would’ve felt satisfied leaving the Czechia capital with a point, particularly after the way Sparta battered them in the first half in particular. That reverse fixture in Prague is the only match new Rangers manager Philippe Clement has failed to win since taking over, with the Belgian winning each of his opening three Scottish Premiership matches, as well as booking his side's place in the League Cup final on Sunday by recording a comfortable 1-3 victory over Hearts.

Similarly to Rangers, it’s been a mixed start to Sparta Prague’s Europa League campaign, as they too began with a victory at home to Aris Limassol before losing away from home against La Liga side Real Betis 2-1 in a match they took an early lead. Whilst that wouldn’t have looked the worst of starts for Brian Priske’s visitors, they would’ve been left frustrated after being held to a goalless draw at home to Rangers on Matchday 3 in a match they should’ve scored at least twice in the first half alone. Domestically, The Rudí bounced back from their first defeat of the season away at Mladá Boleslav by defeating Bohemians 1905 2-0 at home to sit two points clear of city-rivals Slavia Prague at the top of the Czechia First League table.

Bet of the Day

Philippe Clement appears to have Rangers looking far more dangerous going forward, with his new side banging in 14 goals across his opening five games in charge, with the only game they failed to score a brace being the reverse fixture in Prague.

Whatsmore, The Gers have struck on multiple occasions in 10 of their previous 14 European fixtures at Ibrox – including scoring two in a 2-0 victory over Sparta Prague in November 2021 – and I’m willing to have a punt on them bagging another brace against a Sparta defence that’s shipped multiple goals in 4/6 (67%) of their European fixtures this season.

  • Rangers to Score Over 1.5 Goals
  • Pays 20/21 (BetVictor)
