Tuesdays Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Champions League qualifiers and two sides that need to win at home to advance to the next round.
Young Boys vs Slovan Bratislava
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Wednesday 28th July, 19:15
Young Boys host Slovan Bratislava at Stadion Wankdorf in Bern on Wednesday evening. The tie is still in the balance following a 0-0 draw in Bratislava last Wednesday.
After a 0-0 draw in Bratislava last week Young Boys kicked off their domestic campaign with a dramatic 3-4 win away to Luzern. At home, Young Boys are strong winning 14 of their 18 domestic games last season losing just once. In Europe last season, Young Boys won 5 of their 7 games including victories over Cluj and Bayer Leverkusen with both defeats coming against Serie A giants Roma and Dutch champions Ajax.
Slovan Bratislava also kicked off their domestic season at the weekend and they also won away defeating Liptovsky Mikulas 1-4. Bratislava do tend to do their best work on home soil, particularly in Europe. In the last round, Bratislava defeated Irish champions Shamrock Rovers but lost the away leg 2-1. Bratislava have never previously qualified beyond this stage of the competition.
Red Star Belgrade vs Kairat
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Wednesday 27th July, 19:30
Red Star Belgrade host Kairat at the Stadion Rajko Mitić on Wednesday evening. The host are currently down 2-1 following a defeat in Kazakhstan last Wednesday.
After their defeat in Kazakhstan last week, Red Star secured a 1-0 domestic victory over Mladost Lučani. Going back to the start of last season, Red Star have won 19 of their last 21 matches at home in their domestic league losing none. In Europe last year, Red Star were unbeaten at home winning three and securing draws against Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and Italian giants AC Milan, sides far superior to their Kazakh counterparts.
Kairat will be delighted to come away with a first leg advantage but know they face a way tougher task securing a positive result in the Serbian capital. Kairat have never previously qualified for either the Champions League or the Europa League group stages. Kazakhstan are 11 places below Serbia in the UEFA Club Coefficients.
Bet of the Day
Both Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade failed to win their first legs on the road and need to win to go through to the next round. Both sides are pretty formidable at home though and should be good enough to defeat their lower ranked opponents.
- Young Boys to win
- Red Star Belgrade to win
