Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Champions League and the Championship. I’ve picked a selection from each which I like the look of to give us a nice odds against double.

Besiktas vs Ajax

?? Champions League

⏰ Wednesday 24th November, 17:45

Group C leaders Ajax travel to Ístanbul to take on the group’s whipping boys Besiktas at Vodafone Park. Ajax have taken maximum points from their opening four matches in the group, whereas Besiktas are still to get off the mark.

It’s been a disastrous campaign for Besiktas so far, with the Turkish champions losing all four of their group matches to date. Besiktas lost the double header with Sporting Lisbon, conceding four goals on both occasions. They conceded two goals in both their opening group games meaning Besiktas have already conceded a total of 12 goals. It’s not been much better domestically for the Black Eagles, with them losing 2-0 to Alanyaspor to make it four defeats from their last five Süper Lig matches.

Ajax have been superb in Group C so far, with the Dutch champions winning all four of their opening group matches. Ajax done the double over Borussia Dortmund, scoring seven goals over the two matches. Ajax also scored seven goals in the two games before that double header with Dortmund, taking their goal tally to 14. Domestically, Ajax remain top of the Eredivisie with a resounding 0-5 victory away to RKC Waalwijk at weekend. Ajax have lost only of of their opening 13 Eredivisie matches this season, scoring a whopping 42 goals.

Blackburn Rovers vs Peterborough United

??????? Championship

⏰ Wednesday 24th November, 19:45

Struggling Peterborough make the trip to Lancashire as they take on Blackburn at Ewood Park. The visitors are currently in the relegation zone, behind Hull City on goal difference. Blackburn on the other hand are in 8th position and only two points outside the playoff places.

Blackburn bounced back from their humiliating 0-7 defeat at home to Fulham by taking four points from their next two matches. That defeat to Fulham is actually Blackburn’s only defeat in their last five, winning three of them. Rovers have actually got a pretty decent record at Ewood Park this season, winning five of their nine matches, losing only twice. Only the Championship’s top two have scored more goals than Blackburn at home this season, with them netting 19 goals and scoring on multiple occasions seven times.

Peterborough lost 2-0 away to Stoke at the weekend to extend their winless run in the Championship to four, losing three of them. Peterborough have struggled particularly on their travels this season, losing 8/9, with their only points coming away to fellow struggles Hull. Peterborough have the worst defensive record in the whole of the Championship and the worst defensive record away from home. 24 of the 34 goals Posh have conceded this season have came on their travels, with them yet to keep a clean sheet, and conceding on multiple occasions in 7/9 matches.

Bet of the Day

Two sides who’ve had contrasting campaigns meet in Ístanbul and it’s hard to make a case for Besiktas to get a positive result. Besiktas have lost all four group games, conceding 12 goals and they’ve also lost four of their last five games in the Süper Lig. Ajax on the other hand have won all four group games, scoring 14 goals and have been going well domestically, with them top of the Eredivisie. Ajax comfortably won the reverse fixture 2-0 and I expect them to bag another brace against a seriously out of form Besiktas side. Peterborough are inside the relegation zone and come into this winless in their last four. Posh have struggled on their travels, losing 8/9 and conceding 24 goals. They come up against a Blackburn side who are one of the top scorers in the Championship. They’ve scored on multiple occasions in 7/9 at home and I’m expecting them to bag another brace against a Peterborough side who’ve been poor on their travels all season long.

  • Ajax to score 2+
  • Blackburn Rovers to score 2+
  • Double Pays 7/5 (William Hill)

    Somebody should help me here,
    Blackburn odds is increasing why?
Secondly, after Liverpool trash Porto in their first meeting, why are the bookies give Liverpool such a high odds?

Liverpool have already qualified and may rotate and play a weakened side. As for Blackburn I’m not too sure why they’ve drifted slightly but I’m not too concerned.
