Friday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the Portuguese top-flight and I like the look of the hosts to keep up their great run of form and collect all three points.
Gil Vicente vs Estoril
🇵🇹 Primeira Liga
⏰ Friday 4th March, 20:15
Two sides in contrasting form meet at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos, as Gil Vicente host Estoril. The hosts are in 5th, just four points behind 4th-placed Braga, whilst the visitors are 7th, 10 points clear of the relegation-playoff spot.
Despite going down to 10-men just three minutes into the match, Gil Vicente managed to leave the Dragão with a 1-1 draw to bring up last Sundays Bet of the Day. Ricardo Soares’s side have lost just one of their last 15 in the Primeira Liga (W9-D5-L1), with them winning six and drawing three of their last nine, since defeat against champions Sporting CP in the middle of December. At home, Gil Vicente have W5-D3-L4, with their four losses coming against the four sides above them in the table. Gil Vicente have found the back of the net in 20/24 of their league matches this season, scoring on 36 occasions (5th-highest). Gil Vicente also have one of the best defensive records in the Primeira Liga, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding just 25 goals (5th best).
Estoril’s poor recent run of form continued last time out, as they lost 2-3 at home to 13th-placed Boavista. Bruno Pinheiro’s side have now won just two of their last 15 in the league, with both of those wins coming against the bottom two sides in Primeira Liga. Estoril have now lost six of their last nine in the league, scoring just six goals and conceding 15 in that run. After winning four and drawing two of their opening six matches away from home, the Canaries have now W1-D1-L4 of their last six away, conceding nine goals and scoring just twice. Estoril have failed to win any of their eight matches against the sides above them in the table this season, with them losing five and drawing three of them.
Bet of the Day
Along with league leaders Porto, Gil Vicente are the form side in Portugal and will fancy their chances against their out-of-form visitors. Gil Vicente have lost just one of their last 15 in the league, as well as W6-D3-L0 of their last nine and come into this off the back of a 1-1 draw away to Porto, despite playing virtually the whole match with 10-men. On the other hand, Estoril have won just two of their last 15 in the league (both wins coming against the bottom-two sides), as well as losing six of their last nine. Given the contrast in both sides form coming into this, I’m backing the home side to collect all three points in Barcelos, at what is an attractive looking price.
