Tuesdays Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Champions League. It involves two away sides who should have too much firepower for their opponents.

Young Boys vs Manchester United

🇪🇺 Champions League

⏰ Tuesday 14th September, 17:45

Manchester United travel to the Swiss capital to take on Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadion. Young Boys had to go through three rounds of qualifying to reach the group stages whereas United qualified automatically.

Young Boys come into this after thumping early league leaders Zürich 4-0 on Saturday. The Swiss champs defeated Slovan Bratislava and Cluj before defeating Ferencváros in the play-off round. Despite qualifying, Young Boys conceded eight goals in those six qualifiers, keeping a solitary clean sheet in Bratislava. In fact, Young Boys have only kept three clean sheets in their twelve outings so far this season conceding fourteen times.

All eyes were on Manchester United and in particular Cristiano Ronaldo at the weekend as they defeated Newcastle 4-1 with the Portuguese star scoring a brace on his second debut. That’s three wins from four at the start of the season for United with them also scoring eleven times. United scored in all seven of their European away ties last season scoring fourteen times. In five of those games they scored at least twice.

Barcelona vs Bayern Munich

🇪🇺 Champions League

⏰ Tuesday 14th September, 20:00

Two footballing giants meet at the Nou Camp on Tuesday evening as Barcelona take on Bayern Munich. Both sides were knocked out last seasons Champions League by French side PSG.

Barcelona’s match at weekend with Sevilla was postponed due to the late arrivals from South America which impacted both sides. Prior to the international break Barca had taken seven points from their opening three matches. However, they didn’t keep a clean sheet in those matches and look vulnerable at the back. Barca conceded in both home wins over Ferencváros and Dynamo Kyiv in last seasons Champions League but conceded three and four goals against Juventus and PSG respectively.

Bayern come into this fixture full of confidence after defeating rivals RB Leipzig 1-4 in their own backyard. That’s now five wins on the bounce for the German champions with them scoring an incredible 27 goals (albeit 12 of those came against lower league side Bremer SV). Nevertheless, they’ve managed to score 3+ in all those games and with players like Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski, it’s really no surprise. Bayern scored in all five away games in last year’s Champions League, scoring fourteen goals.

Bet of the Day

Cristiano Ronaldo and co will fancy their chances in Bern against a Young Boys side who are far from tight at the back. Young Boys are capable of scoring so I’d rather take United to score 2+ instead of the win. As well as their off-field problems, Barcelona look to have problems on the pitch too at the back. Bayern’s attackers will be relishing coming up against this Barca back line and I’d be surprised if they didn’t score at least twice.

  • Manchester United to score 2+ goaks
  • Bayern Munich to score 2+ goals
