IT’S a busy midweek for Scottish Football League clubs in league and cup business.
And let’s hope there will be no love lost and punters can make it a Valentine’s Day massacre for the bookies.
Joe Wallace kicks off in the William Hill Scottish Cup and Queen of the South’s home fourth-round replay with Aberdeen.
The Palmerston men held the Dons to a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie 10 days ago – but despite them having home advantage for the rematch he reckons their chance of causing an upset has gone.
Dons boss Craig Brown was surprisingly named SPL Clydesdale Bank Manager of the Month for January and will be looking to prove he was a worthy winner of the award by dumping Gus MacPherson’s men at the second time of asking.
The Pittodrie side have a shocking cup record against lower-league sides in recent years but take them to defeat a Queens outfit second bottom of the IRN-BRU First Division table. An away win for the Dons is 5-6 with Stan James and William Hill.
Moving on to the IRN-BRU Second Division and focus on Cowdenbeath’s home clash with Albion Rovers. The Blue Brazil proudly top the table and on Saturday thrashed Stirling 4-1.
In contrast Rovers go into this match third bottom of the table and a massive 22 points behind Beath.
The Blue Brazil have won the last six meetings between the sides – no surprise then the second selection in the treble is Beath at 5-11 with 188bet.
Finish up in the Irn-Bru Second Division and look in on Arbroath’s trip to face Brechin. The Gayfield men top the table, 19 points ahead of Brechin, and will be looking for another win that could further increase their gap in pole position.
On Saturday Arbroath were on form as they were 4-2 winners away to Forfar while Brechin were held to a 1-1 home draw with Airdrie.
Arbroath have won the last two battles between the sides and their last three matches. Make them the final side in the SFL treble at 7-5 with William Hill.
