Espanyol v Barcelona (Saturday 20:00)

Following a two-week Christmas break La Liga is back and it's top versus bottom as Barcelona travel to local rivals Espanyol.

The Catalan giants ended 2019 two points clear at the summit of the Spanish top-flight following a 4-1 home success over Alves, coupled with fierce rivals Real Madrid's surprise stalemate against Atletico Bilbao.

Ernesto Valverde's star-studded side have not been at their free-flowing best for large parts of the season, however, Barca should have too much firepower for basement boys Espanyol.

The hosts are anchored at the bottom of La Liga having only amassed 10 points form 18 outings and Espanyol will enter this derby without a league win since October – one of only two wins this season – both of which have come away from the RCDE Stadium.

The White and Blues wretched run of form has seen them recently change manager – former Barcelona player Abelardo Fernandez will take charge of Espanyol for the first time this weekend in what looks like a La Liga mismatch.

Indeed, this tends to be a fiery affair and Barcelona have been unconvincing on the road this term, however, Valverde's men could find themselves second in the table by the time this showdown gets underway or they may be presented with the opportunity to extend their lead at the top.

Regardless of how Real Madrid fare away at Getafe, I fully expect Barcelona to dispose of Espanyol in this local derby and I'm going to back the Spanish champions to overcome a -1 handicap at 1.780 with Bet-IBC via VOdds – a  bet that would only see you completely out of pocket should Barcelona fail to win the match.

Juventus v Cagliari (Monday 14:00)

The Juventus juggernaut that has swept aside everything in Serie A in recent seasons appears to have encountered it's biggest obstacle in many a year in the shape of Antonio Conte's Inter Milan.

Both Juve and Inter ended 2019 well-nigh inseparable at the top of the Italian top-flight and the Old Lady will be looking to reclaim top-spot – at least temporarily – when Cagliari come calling to Turin on Monday afternoon.

Rolando Maran's men are enjoying a quietly impressive season – the Rossoblu currently occupy a place in the top-six and look on course to compete for a place in next season's Europa League.

What's more, Cagliari have held their own against the divisions big-hitters this term having won away at both Napoli and Atalanta, as well as picking up a point in the Italian capital against Roma.

Furthermore, both Inter and Lazio left it late to squeeze out Cagliari and although I expect Juventus to collect all three points from this clash, I do like the look of backing Cagliari with a +2 handicap at 1.632 with Pinnacle via VOdds.

Backing the visitors with a two goal start is a betting angle that would only fail in the event of a Juventus win by three or more goals – something Maurizio Sarri's men have yet to achieve in 17 Serie A outings thus far.

Napoli v Inter Milan (Monday 19:45)

Inter Milan's title credentials will face a stern examination on Monday night against Napoli inside the San Paolo Stadium.

The Nerazzurri have made giant strides under Antonio Conte's stewardship this season, however, a trip to Naples arguably represents Inter's toughest Serie A road trip of the season to date.

The Partenopei parted company with Carlo Ancelotti last month and swiftly recruited Gennaro Gattuso who suffered a debut defeat at home to Parma before bagging a last-gasp win away at Sassuolo last time out.

The former AC Milan manager has inherited a wealth of attacking talent who are currently closer to the bottom of the table than they are to that of league leaders Inter.

Inter possess one of the most potent attacking partnerships on the planet in the shape of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez – a deadly duo who will be up against a Naopli defence who will be without key centre-half  Kalidou Koulibaly.

Indeed, Gattuoso will have his troops fired up for this tussle, however, I suspect Conte's title challengers will take something away from this showdown and with that in mind, I'm going to back Inter with 0.25 start at 1.750 with Bet-IBC via VOdds – a punt that would generate profit so long as Inter avoid defeat.

Recommended Bets

  • Barcelona -1  (1.780 with Bet-IBC via VOdds)
  • Cagliari +2 (1.632 with Pinnacle via VOdds)
  • Inter +0.25 (1.750 with Bet-IBC via VOdds)
