LUKE SHAW is 6-1 with Ladbrokes to make his World Cup debut by starting against Italy.

Shaw, who started the season as an 8-1 shot to make it to Brazil ousted one-time 1-33 squad chance Ashley Cole for the final left-back role.

Raheem Sterling is odds-on at 8-13 to start the first match and 6-4 to score in the tournament at any time with Ross Barkley both 5-1 to start against Italy and grab a goal in Brazil.

Of the outfield players Gary Cahill and Wayne Rooney appear the biggest certainties to start the opener at 1-16 each with Jack Wilshere odds on at 10-11 to have recovered sufficiently to take a starting berth. Rickie Lambert is the outfield player with the longest odds (10-1) of lining up against the Italians.

England remain 33-1 to win the World Cup with 5-4 the price the team fail to make it out of their group. It's 6-1 England are eliminated on penalties.

Finally, following his omission from the squad Ashley Cole is 8-1 to retire from professional football this summer with 16-1 offered he is recalled in time for Euro 2016. He's 1-2 to leave the Premier League this summer.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Earlier in the season Shaw was a real outsider to make it to Brazil but he's played his way in at the expense of one-time certainty Cole. The betting suggests a start against Italy may be a step too far however although fellow youngster Sterling looks set to step up to the plate.

“We haven't learned anything shocking enough to warrant any outright price changes. Punters appreciate England are touch and go to get out of their group let alone win the World Cup.”

Is it just me or does anybody else think that James Milner is a huge price to start against the Italians? He is a good technical player which I think England need against Italy, he is a very underrated player. His stats this year in Premier League and champions league are:
37 Appearances (Only 15 starts- 3 in Champions League, 12 in Premier League)
2 Goals (1 in each competition)
7 Assists (3 in Champions League)
And his average pass success percentage over both competitions is 83.2%, also receiving 1 MotM in Champions League

He also mainly plays on the right wing where lallana is more left sided and I dont think oxlade chamberlain is anyway near as good as Milner yet. Raheem Sterling is not as good defensively, which England need because Italy do not concede many in big competitions, therefore the less England concede the better. The only weakness his is goal scoring, but that really isn’t his job. Just to let people know he has made more assists than all the other 3 wingers this year, and made less appearances than lallana and sterling, who are priced way too short for me.

I would like some feedback if anybody agrees/disagrees with anything I have posted. Thank Youuuuu

Ricky C, picked up a Racing Post just there and Mark Langdon has predicted his starting team against Italy and he has Milner in there.

Uruguay prov 25 Cavani Suarez Forlan has proved a problem for Uruguay, didnt do that well in the SA prelims, even though that is a very very tough league. Cavani and Suarez in 2 up front looks better. Uruguay tricky for both england and italy.

Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera (Galatasaray/Turkey), Martin Silva (Vasco Da Gama/Brazil), Rodrigo Munoz (Libertad/Paraguay)

Defenders: Diego Lugano (West Bromwich Albion/England), Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid/Spain), Jose Maria Gimenez (Atletico Madrid/Spain), Martin Caceres (Juventus/Italy), Maximiliano Pereira (Benfica/Portugal), Jorge Fucile (Porto/Portugal), Sebastian Coates (Nacional).

Midfielders: Egidio Arevalo Rios (Morelia/Mexico), Walter Gargano (Parma/Italy), Diego Perez (Bologna/Italy), Sebastian Eguren (Palmeiras/Brazil), Alvaro Gonzalez (Lazio/Italy), Alejandro Silva (Lanus/Argentina), Alvaro Pereira (San Pablo/Brazil), Cristian Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid/Spain), Gaston Ramirez (Southampton/England), Nicolas Lodeiro (Botafogo/Brazil).

Forwards: Luis Suarez (Liverpool/England), Edinson Cavani (PSG/France), Diego Forlan (Cerezo Osaka/Japan), Cristian Stuani (Espanyol/Spain), Abel Hernandez (Palermo/Italy).

Ricky, I totally agree.8/1 is huge. If it was any of the other games and not Italy I might not be so confident, but hodgson will not go gung ho in the opening match against Italy. It will be more of a try and not lose game. Yes he has picked a youthful squad with plenty of attacking flare, but this game will all be about solidity for Woy and Milner fits the bill perfectly.

I will be on England not to get out of group good price at 5/4 that. All 3 teams they play their players can handle heat.

alva glen, an England v Italy draw wouldn’t be a surprise and I’m sure it’s going to be really close contest between the three top sides in that group. Uruguay have to convince me they’re better than their play-off performance which was a shocker.
