I DON'T have the time – and lack the knowledge – to put up darts tips but I know the World Championship that starts tonight will be a popular punting affair.

Earlier in the week I commented about the fact tournament sponsors were refunding losing outright bets (max £25) if odds-on favourite Phil Taylor bagged a 17th title.

It's a great offer when you consider the winner is almost certainly going to come from him, second favourite Michael van Gerwen or third favourite Adrian Lewis. It's 28-1 bar those.

So I've backed MVG at 3-1 with Ladbrokes and Lewis at 6-1. If Lewis wins I'll be happiest but if it's MVG I'll make a small profit and if it's Taylor as expected I lose nothing.

The action starts at 7pm on Friday with three-time champion John Part opening against young Dutch star Mareno Michels. The concensus here is that Michels could notch a shock win against a player who has started wearing glasses and could take some time to make the adjustment.

Mareno has beaten Kim Huybrechts and Vincent van der Voort in recent months and if he beats the nerves of performing on the Ally Pally stage and plays to his best he could win. Michels is a biggest 9-4 at Ladbrokes.

So that's my early pointers but my focus is on the football so anyone who knows more about darts is welcome to post tips or comments here. I'll put up threads throughout the tournament but probably not every day.

Mr Taylor is also a decent bet at 10/1 with bet365 to have the most 180’s in the tournament,i know he’s not as prolific as MVG and Lewis at the maximums but he does seem to be hitting alot more lately than previous also Taylor is going to be playing all the way to the final by my reckoning where as MVG and Lewis are due to meet in the Semi’s if they come through their games which i think they will … i will be doing this bet for small stakes with the price being 10/1

The only bet I have done on this championship doesn’t apply to the money back offer from Ladbrokes – Taylor to win outright @ 10/11.

Phil has been in unbelievable form this year, winning this year’s World Matchplay, UK Open, Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Championship League. His only slight dangers should be (as you say Paul) MVG and Lewis, but over the longer format matches the cream should rise to the top and I’ve no problem at all backing him substantially for the tournament.

Phil should be holding aloft the trophy for the 17th time come New Years Day.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Burger, surely you should therefore back MVG and Lewis and get your moneyback.

  3. gunner4life 10 years ago

I’m on mvg he beat Taylor in players championship with ease hitting 180s for fun Taylor just give up and we know Taylor fears mighty mike so im on mvg he beat Lewis then Taylor to win the cup and yes back at his best im heavily on mvg

Am I correct in thinking that you get your money back as a free bet if Taylor wins? So you would need to play the free bet through once and would not get the initial stake, only the subsequent winnings. Could someone maybe enlighten me as I may be wrong lol

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Gary, free bet or cash – I didn’t check. It doesn’t matter to me because I’ll be having another bet.

  5. Burger 10 years ago

Absolutely Paul, I would if I hadn’t blocked myself out of their site a few years ago! But what I really meant by that was just not to let that offer cloud your judgement, Taylor should still win this and there’s money to be made here.

The ladbrokes offer is for a free bet if Taylor Wins. Im having a few quid on Lewis who’s odds have been enhanced to 34/5 at Betbright. Its best I can see with most firms going 11/2. Seems decent value at that and looking back has won 2 out of the last 3 and would have made the final last year if hadnt missed those 2 darts at double top against MVG. Whatever happens should be great few weeks of darts. Will throw a few quid at Anderson at 55/1 aswell in the hope we can finally see another Scottish winner, not holding out much hope on that though !!

Round 1 usually sees the big boys get there are a few close matches in the first round. I’m having small stakes on Michels at 9/4 Ladbrokes he never played on tv before, but if he is a typical young dutchman, he will be quick, heavy scorer but dodgy on his doubles.

My main bet will be the last game on. The closest on paper so should see plenty of legs which makes it the match to have most 180s it is evens at Betvictor.

    BURNETT/ WINSTANLEY GAME MOST 180s 1/1

    Enjoy the darts!

  8. mr g 10 years ago

Thechief .. good call on that 180’s bet, remembering Winstanley is a big 180 hitter he also had a 9 darter in this last year

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

mr g, some special sent to me by Ladbrokes.
      9 dart finish? Yes 4/5, No 10/11
      170 checkout? Yes 1/50, No 10/1
MVG to hit a 9 dart finish 5/1
Record amount of beer to be sold at Alexandra Palace 5/6

  9. monthehoops 10 years ago

I have to say the 170 no at 10/1 is tempting. ..a lot of games played but how many will leave 170 ..worth a daft £20 maybe

  10. mr g 10 years ago

mr f,monthehoops … someone will defo have the 170 finish,9 darter odds is 50/50 maybe worth a few quid cause they still great to watch and nicer if you got a few pound on it ha ha

bet365 are doing odds on what colour the winning double will be in each game, obviously you have more reds than greens 11 to 10,but there are some decent priced greens chalked up by bet365 ie burnett v winstanley winning colour green is @ 3.4,and all other games to check out on green are priced over evens as well

check back in here in the morning im off to cause some tungsten mayhem of my own,26,41,45’s here i come ha ha

all the best if you having a bet :-)

  11. thechief 10 years ago

Cheers Mr G, yeah both heavy scorers and you got to think it will be close so plenty of legs. I had a 100 average myself, that was the average number of darts I was going out in :)

The beer bet looks good Mr F, Im going to the semi finals night, I will be making a healthy contribution :)

  12. gunner4life 10 years ago

Looks like John part going out but not really shock he’s well past it

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

gunner4life, can I claim it as a tip? if not it was flagged up at least.

  13. gunner4life 10 years ago

No was just saying he’s playing poor but won at end my tip is mvg to lift cup

  14. Ellis 10 years ago

Part was a certainty and part of my big 20 fold for the tournament

Szabo in the next match at 9/4 is a great bet

  15. Ellis 10 years ago

Don’t waste your money. Taylor will win this tournament!!

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Ellis, that’s the point – we don’t lose if he does. If he doesn’t we’ll probably win.

  16. Ellis 10 years ago

Oooooo my szabo at 9/4 looking good

  17. thechief 10 years ago

Gunner he looked a gonner didn’t he, fair play to him but can’t see him getting past Wes Newton in next round. These two qualifiers will do well to get a leg of Phil, what odds of 9-0 Taylor

  18. Ellis 10 years ago

This one I’ve heavily backed wright

    3-0 at 11/8 looks good

  19. Stuartw 10 years ago

James wade is good value e/w. He can play and the last tournament aside he was playing well….saying that depends what mood he is in…sticking a couple of quid on him anyway

  20. Ellis 10 years ago

    Wade no chance mate

  21. Ellis 10 years ago

Looks like 4/4 steamrolling in for me so far. Wright and wright 3-0

Final one will be Richie Burnett at EVS!!

  22. thechief 10 years ago

Stuart he is in the tough half of the draw and I like Wade but I wonder about his mind set. Lewis got too him a couple of years ago in the Semi and that’s as close as he has been. As u say worth a couple of quid.

  23. GREGGE 10 years ago

    Taylor v Szabo

    180’s over 3.5 @ Evs 1/1

    Any thoughts??

  24. Stuartw 10 years ago

Wade no chance? Cause upsets don’t happen eh….the top 8 players all have a chance in my mind and I’m looking for a bit of value…i usually bet on singles matches as they can be easy to predict but the odds aren’t there

  25. Ellis 10 years ago

They are if you put the right money on them

Wade has no chance and the odds represent that

  26. Ellis 10 years ago

Gregge I prefer under 3.5 180s mate. Don’t think the other guy will win a leg

  27. Ellis 10 years ago

As I’m 4/4 I’ll stick my neck out and make that bet 5

Under 3.5 180s Taylor vs szabo

  28. GREGGE 10 years ago

    Fair doo’s.. gone for Phil Taylor Over 2.5 180s @ 11/10

Aw the best of luck.. C’mon the Power hit a few 180s :)

  29. Ellis 10 years ago

Tbh I think he will hit 3

Under 3.5 seems logical don think he will lose a leg

  30. thechief 10 years ago

Go on then Rob Szabo haha

  31. Ellis 10 years ago

I’d commit suicide if rob szabo won this I’ve absolutely smashed Taylor to wn the whole thing

On the plus side no 180s

  32. GREGGE 10 years ago

From my point of view my bet now looks stronger (that is, if oor phil the power has the balls for the 180s and putting on a show now) so we shall see how he plays now after Szabos fine first leg win!!

  33. thechief 10 years ago

Wade his a top player mate and only Taylor has won more majors than Wade, people forget that like you say worth a punt E/W

  34. Ellis 10 years ago

He won’t get through mvg Lewis Anderson not a prayer

  35. Ellis 10 years ago

4/5 not bad glad you won mate still £200 up for night if Burnett wins happy days

  36. GREGGE 10 years ago

Good stuff!! score still at 1-1 both bets win, unlucky your bet 5 Ellis ;)

  37. Ellis 10 years ago

Yes mate still a good margin for the night I’ll take 5/6 if Burnett wins

  38. Darkwater 10 years ago

    Lewis will win this tourney.

Decent bank builder tonight with part, wright and Taylor (got him at 1/12). Tomorrow is White, Thornton and Anderson for the treble.

  39. Ellis 10 years ago

    Dark water

Finally someone talking on the same chord

    Other than Lewis outright aha

My 20 fold 200/1 is still alive haha

  40. gunner4life 10 years ago

    Dean winstanley for me c’mon

  41. GREGGE 10 years ago

Dean winstanley for me too buddie.. C’mon

  42. Ellis 10 years ago

    Good start. C’mon Burnett!!!!!

  43. Joe 10 years ago

Where the hell did u get 1/12 on Taylor Dark water?

  44. Ellis 10 years ago

    Not possible he got 1/12

  45. Joe 10 years ago

Didn’t think he could have got those odds, why do guys make up odds and bets they had, they mug them selves rite off, d*cks!

  46. mr g 10 years ago

richie burnett out on double 16 @ 3.4 and i did not bet it :-(

  47. mr g 10 years ago

i didnt really fancy burnett to win tonight because i beat him at a 501 game in the summer but in all honesty burnett is capable of doing it on the big stage where as myself and all the other people who beat the pros in a one off game in a little clubhouse game with all your mates shouting you on will probably buckle and crumble on the big stage … im honest with myself these guys have got the balls in front of the camera and i havent lol

  48. Sal 10 years ago

Taylor odd went as high as 1.10 in play so I’m sure he could have got 1/12 on him

  49. john scott 10 years ago

    Saturday 12:15pm

    mark walsh v jarkko komula
    KOMULA 11/10

  50. thechief 10 years ago

Jenkins hit the darter this afternoon, reckon we will see at least one more in the worlds.

  51. thechief 10 years ago

9 darter by Anderson now wat a session of darts

  52. Darkwater 10 years ago

    Next bank builder treble –

    Andy Hamilton
    Dave chissy chissy chissy
    Barney

Not a huge profit but it will come in.

  53. joe 10 years ago

    No

  54. joe 10 years ago

No Darkwater, your trebles are dire.1/4 1/5 and then taylor 1/100 really? You claimed 1/12 no bookie went that before the game. Chisnall LOST that’s another treble LOST. Don’t say ” this will come in” because you can’t even get a odds on treble up.
