The Bundesliga outright winner odds market has seen some interesting shifts, and here we'll look at whether or not Leverkusen can hold on to their crown, as a wounded Bayern Munich gear up to take back what they see as theirs by rights.
Best Bundesliga outright winner odds
Bayern Munich – 2/7
Bayern had their first stern test of the season as they recovered to take a share of the spoils with reigning champions Bayern Leverkusen last weekend. But it was still enough to keep them in the driving seat, and Vincent Kompnay’s men have been shorted into 2/7 for the title on the back of the result.
Under new boss Vincent Kompany, they look like a more swashbuckling side than they were under Thomas Tuchel. Star striker Harry Kane tallied 36 goals last term, and he probably has another 30+ goals in him with Bayern playing to his strengths.
Interestingly, Kane is available at 11/4 odds within the Bundesliga top scorer outright market to net at least 40 league goals this season.
Bayern Munich’s last three Bundesliga titles came from an average of 75 per season. But a new bar has been set and Bayern Munich have to up their game, meaning they are 6/4 to at least match the 90 points Leverkusen earned last season.
Bayer Leverkusen – 10/3
Leverkusen couldn’t overcome Bayern Munich in a big clash last weekend and remain without a clean sheet this season. There will be much easier fixtures to come in their title defence, but their defence badly needs to stop leaking goals. Xabi Alonso’s champions drifted to 10/3 in the title race following their draw with Bayern.
Bayer Leverkusen achieved an unbeaten campaign last season (W28 D6). A repeat of that is already impossible, so it’s about consolidation and another top-four finish. Die Werkself added new faces over the summer including Aleix Garcia, Martin Terrier and Jeanuel Belocian.
They have had to build a deeper squad because of the new demands that come with the pressure of the UEFA Champions League, but the difficult thing for Bayer Leverkusen is finding a new level to fend off a stronger-looking Bayern Munich.
Best Bayer Leverkusen odds to win the Bundesliga without Bayern: 4/11
RB Leipzig – 25/1
RB Leipzig thumped Augsburg for the biggest win of their season last weekend, which was also their first win in three. But they are the only side besides Bayern Munich with an unbeaten record intact this season and have shorted in the title race.
RB Leipzig finished seven points outside the top three last term, but they should be back in the running for another top-four finish this season and are odds on (at 4/9) to do so. Manager Marco Rose was busy over the summer adding to their squad, with the likes of Antonio Nusa and Lutsharel Geertruida joining.
Leipzig were sound last season in a defensive sense, but fell down badly in matches against the three teams that finished above them. Their big outsider price in Bundesliga outright winner odds reflects the opinions of those who see the Red Bulls as little more than flat-track bullies with no big-game mentality.
Best RB Leipzig odds to win the Bundesliga without Bayern: 6/1
Borussia Dortmund – 25/1
Dortmund’s form has been inconsistent so far this season. They have looked good going forward, but haven’t settled into a rock-solid defensive footing at all. This looks like the pattern for them in their season of rebuilding, but they are exciting to watch and stacked with potential.
Borussia Dortmund surprised everyone by reaching last season’s Champions League final, which they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid. That run covered up a poor domestic season in which BVB only finished fifth.
There's a ‘new broom' feeling to the club right now, with unproven head coach Nuri Sahin taking over and a big clear out of players, including veterans Niclas Fullkrug, Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. Dortmund’s big summer signing was striker Serhou Guirassy, who scored 28 goals in 28 Bundesliga matches last season for Stuttgart. He is a tempting 12/1 shot to be the Bundesliga top scorer this season.
Best Borussia Dortmund odds to win the Bundesliga without Bayern: 6/1
Who will win the Bundesliga? Here’s our prediction
Bayern Munich are the overwhelming favourites to get the title back, and it’s hard to see any other outcome. Because Bayer Leverkusen will be tested with Champions League football, and RB Leipzig don’t carry the biggest of attacking threats, Borussia Dortmund could make a surprise run at second spot.
The swathe of changes makes it hard to see Dortmund in the title picture, but there is a big new energy sweeping through the club, making them a decent 11/2 shot in the w/o Bayern Munich market.
