LIVERPOOL and Dundee Utd are the latest British clubs in European action – and it should be a repeat of Wednesday with one in and one out.

Celtic as expected made it through to a Champions League play-off while Motherwell's hopes were ended at the hands of Panathinaikos.

Liverpool have one foot in the Europa League play-off round after beating Gomel 1-0 away but United face an uphill task after being held 2-2 at home to Dynamo Moscow.

The Reds are no bigger than 2-9 with Paddy Power to increase their advantage at Anfield so best value could be on Brendan Rodgers' men to win to nil against a side that didn't create much in the first leg. That pays 4-5 at Coral.

You could also look at the handicaps where Liverpool are 8-11 at Blue Square kicking off a goal behind.

Dundee Utd played well against the big-spending Russians at Tannadice but conceding an injury-time equaliser could prove crucial. However, Dynamo's boss has since been axed after a dismal start to their league campaign so there will be some uncertainty in the ranks under a caretaker manager.

The 4-11 at Paddy Power on Dynamo Moscow is a tad small but I think the Russians wil edge it. United are 9-1 at BetVictor for a shock victory.

Elsewhere I'll be looking at sides who need to go for a win rather than those already through after first-leg romps. I like Swedes Elfsborg who are usually decent at home against Horsens after a 1-1 draw in Denmark The win pays 8-11 at Blue Square.

Rosenborg, although not as strong as they once were, have a decent European pedigree and are 8-13 at Ladbrokes to complete the job after a 1-1 draw in Servette.

Young Boys were shocked 1-0 away to Kalmar ans the Swiss will be past-it boys if they don't turn this one around. They are 4-9 at Paddy Power.

Marseille were held 1-1 away to Turks but should complete the job at home and are 2-5 with William Hill to notch a win.

Maritimo also drew 1-1 at Asteras Tripoli and are 6-10 with William Hill to land the win they want.

One interesting tie is Mura v Arsenal Kyiv. The Ukrainians won 3-0 at home in the first leg but by fielding an ineligible player it was turned into a 3-0 defeat.

Arsenal are by the far the better team and will go all out to overturn the tie at Maribor's stadium. It's a tall order but they should be at least backed to win at 2-5 with Coral.

Paul, great all on Arsenal Kiev! Backed -1. Tempted to go in more as looks great on paper for them to win well. They need a 3 goal margin to stand a chance, so handicap appeals as does WBH. What do you think? Maru05 have poor form too.

RPB, obviously 3-0 is a huge ask but Arsenal were better side by miles in first leg and also Mura have been forced to move game from their own ground to a European standard on in Maribor. Arsenal will be looking to right a wrong and should go close to qualifying at the very least.

Am looking to win £3000+,so need one more bet. If I take Rangers 3/10(v peterhead) Real madrid 2/9 (v celtic, friendly) and BTTS in the berwick/elgin game 2/5 and stake the winnings, comes to 1.22-1. would end shy of £3000. Wld bank that then start the challenge again.

Down to bottle tho, lol, is tempting to cash in but this was the challenge I set at the start of the season.

Will wait to see what Paul’s advice would be,lol.

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Andy, I’d put it all on Rangers and then look at it again. I wouldn’t be touching a friendly even if it is Real v Celtic and I wouldn’t risk that sort of money on both teams to score.

Thanks for the posts guys, have read them and have……….went against you all, lol.

I have just decided to go with my first thoughts and done the Rangers,Real Madrid and berwick/elgin BTTS.
Normally wouldnt take a friendly but sometimes you have to take a risk.
Staked £1221.32 (Kept £100 of my original stake)and returns £2948.62. Guts are churning already lol.
Will bank that and start again, and hopefully another run will happen. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Andy, I’m rooting for you but bookies will love you with that sort of chat. You are losing money, the money you’ve won and bookies love the chance to get it back off you.

  17. Alex walker 12 years ago
