Wolves v Everton
Premier League. Kick-Off: 5:30pm, Saturday August 11th. Live on BTSport 1.
THERE were no surprises at all when this one was announced as one of the first televised games of the season. Wolves on the back of an incredible promotion campaign which saw them win the league by an impressive 9 points and Everton who recovered from a shocking start to last season to eventually finish in the top half.
Two of the founding members of the football league go head to head here in what is a very tough game to call. Both sides have strengthened and made some impressive moves in the transfer market.
Wolves have turned a handful of their impressive loan signings of last season into permanent deals. Boly, Jota and Vinagre are the pick of these but Wolves have acquired some top Portuguese experience in Moutinho and Patricio which will stand them in good stead for this season. Everton made a mad dash on transfer deadline day to bring in some real quality. The question though, is whether they will feature here.
With the transfer window shutting two days before this game it will be interesting to see what teams are fielded on the opening day. Wolves snapped up Dendoncker and Traore late on and from a Wolves perspective I can't imagine Nuno throwing either of them straight in. Simlarily for Everton, I would assume the new boys Bernard, Mina, and Gomes will be given a week to bed in before being considered for a place in the starting eleven.
Neither team have defended well in pre-season and from a betting perspective I can see goals with both teams scoring. There will be a lot of pace and attacking threat on display and feel that both sides could be exposed defensively. At the same time I'd fancy Wolves to edge this one.
