AFTER Aintree Mania – and let's hope jockey Ryan makes a full recovery from his fall – we're all set for Monday mania with two of European football's biggest derbies.

We have Man Utd v Man City to look forward to although the title race in England is over and in Italy there's a potentially-explosive clash between Roma and Lazio.

There are plenty of other games to look at across Europe including Porto v Braga and Sevilla v Athletic Bilbao.

Yesterday there were some decent calls on the site with Milesey tipping Atalanta at 4-1 to win away to Inter Milan. My Super Single was Stade de Reims draw no bet against Lyon although I also predicted they would win the game at 11-4.

My top tips will be up around lunchtime but be free to post your own thoughts.

Rajasthan Royals v Kolkata Knight Riders
      Start Time: 15:30 BST
TV: Live on ITV4 and ITV.com

      Rajasthan Royals

Skipper Rahul Dravid guided his team to a winning total against Delhi on Saturday but the Royals looked to be heading for an expected defeat as David Warner guided the Daredevils run chase. Warner’s run out and some exemplary death bowling from Kevon Cooper pulled off an unlikely victory and that will give the squad some confidence as they prepare to host the reigning Champions.

However, much will depend on Dravid who sounds hopeful, if not exactly confident that he will be fit for Monday’s game.

“Severe bout of cramps, little disappointing I wasn’t there with the boys in the end. I will see how I feel tomorrow and then take a decision”, the captain said after hobbling off during Delhi’s chase.

A long and unprofitable afternoon seemed likely for Rajasthan but the loss of such an influential figure is going to weaken the side even further in Monday’s contest.

      Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR look like a team that had played regularly together as opposed to a squad that assembles for two tournaments every year. Their emphatic win over Delhi last week was guided by Sunil Narine who took 4-13 to justify the faith of those backing him in the leading wicket taker market.

Narine received good support from Brett Lee and Rajat Bhatia while Jacques Kallis and skipper Gambhir guided the run chase after the early loss of Manvinder Bisla. With Brendon McCullum waiting to come back into this side when he recovers full fitness, Kolkata are certain qualifiers and should be too strong for the Royals on Monday.

      Venue and Conditions

At the start of last season’s competition, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium became something of a stronghold for the Royals as they won their first five games at home. It’s generally a high scoring ground with scores approaching 200 not uncommon.

170 should be about par and added temperatures in the mid-30’s centigrade should make it a long and uncomfortable day for the bowlers.

      Match Odds

Home advantage and the confidence of that opening win make the Royals good value at 2.3 for the win. The toss could be vital with sides batting first tending to prevail in the early games this year but Kolkata are looking so strong that it’s hard to see any option but to back KKR at 1.61.

      Rajasthan Top Batsman

With Dravid and Shane Watson set to miss out, Brad Hodge is ready to take over the captaincy and the responsibility of scoring the skipper’s runs. It’s been a prolific year for the veteran and he looks the likely bet here at 3.75.

      Kolkata Top Batsman

Gautam Gambhir top scored with 41 against the Daredevils and will attract a lot of money for this match. KKR should be keeping wickets intact and while Eoin Morgan is tempting at 4.5, he will bat at five and may not get enough time at the crease. Gambhir looks the likely option again at 3.4.

      Recommended Bet

      Back Kolkata at 1.61

      GOLF
      —-
After a sensational few years for European golf it doesn’t come as a huge shock to see the rest of the world ‘fighting back’ somewhat.

Since the turn of the decade, Europeans (or European Tour based players) have won more than half of the 12 Majors played, Team Europe have won back-to-back Ryder Cups, and the likes of Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald, and Rory McIlroy have reached the summit of the world golf rankings.

But in the last 12 months – arguably starting with Bubba Watson’s success here at Augusta – there’s been a gradual change in power. It’s now the Americans and South Africans who seem to be dominating, so much so in fact that Paul Krishnamurty questions whether this is the weakest European challenge ever ahead of this week’s US Masters.

Tiger Woods is leading the American revival having regained the number one player in the world slot, though he’s been backed up superbly on the PGA Tour this year with his compatriots winning every single event, while on the European Tour, no less than six different South Africans have already won this season.

So it makes sense then, with no European winning at Augusta this century, to expect the recent trend to continue and stick with the Americans and South Africans. Below are five players who hold outstanding claims to finish in the Top Five come Sunday evening.

      Charl Schwartzel – 6.4

It’s difficult to envisage either Schwartzel or Louis Oosthuizen not challenging this week so hopefully I’ve picked the correct one. From a form perspective the selection ticks all the right boxes; in his last four starts on the European Tour alone he’s recorded a win, a second, a third and a fourth, while in his two starts on the PGA Tour (non WGC events) he’s finished third and ninth.

Only a final round 75 knocked Schwartzel down to 16th in his last outing in America, but when you consider that was his worst strokeplay finish in 2013 then you can see why he should give you an excellent run for your money. This likeable South African has a fine Major record too that includes a run of seven consecutive championships without finishing outside the top 18. And of course he donned the Green Jacket here just two years ago. He’s arguably a better player now and can’t fail to go well.

      Dustin Johnson – 8.6

This long-hitting American started the season with a win in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions but then withdrew the following week with a bug, and seemingly lost his form completely. But the saying “form is temporary, class is permanent” definitely applies to Johnson as he demonstrated in Houston last time. In fact his final round at Redstone was easily his best ball-striking round of the season, and if he can carry the form of that fourth place finish into Augusta he’ll surely challenge.

The worry is that Johnson has never finished better than T30 at the Masters, but his overall Major record makes impressive reading; five top-10 finishes since 2009 including two top-fives. The long holes should be at his mercy this week, it’s how he plays the shorter holes that will be key to his chances, but if he strikes the ball like he did in Houston then he’ll be bang in contention.

      Matt Kuchar – 8.2

It’s incredible to think that Kuchar finished as the leading amateur at Augusta 15 years ago before falling off the golfing planet for the best part of 10 years. But this forever-smiling American has really found his game in the last three or four years which has enabled him to establish himself as one of the most consistent players in the world as well as a huge contender to don a Green Jacket.

Kuchar has recorded four top-10 finishes in Majors since 2010, including a third place finish here last year, so his pedigree for the big tournaments is not in question, a belief confirmed by his WGC Matchplay victory six weeks ago. That victory is Kuchar’s season highlight to date, but he’s made the cut in all eight events that he’s played, and it’s very rare that he doesn’t climb on to the leaderboard at some point during a tournament.

      Bo Van Pelt – 21.0

Van Pelt’s form this season is nothing to shout home about, but he’s a player that I believe is suited to Augusta and he might just find an extra gear this week. He ranked fifth in Total Driving in 2012 – a stat that takes into account both Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy, so if he can rediscover that form off the tee he’ll be a big player. I backed him in each of the last two years here when he finished eighth and 17th, so fingers crossed he can improve slightly on past performances and contend over the weekend.

      Richard Sterne – 34.0

The second of my South African selections is a player that I have quite a hunch for this week. Sterne is a fantastic player when on song and currently leads the Race to Dubai standings on the European Tour. He got through a few rounds at the WGC Matchplay six weeks ago before finishing a very respectable tied-12th in the WGC Cadillac Championship. He’s an accurate iron player who can putt well on his day, and the fact that he finished 25th here in 2008 when nowhere near the player he is now has to bode well. He’s a big outsider, but he’s certainly not without a chance.

Another good single yesterday Paul, good work! :)

They say you shouldn’t chase, however when you have 6 or 7 lines with half of which were done by last minute goals it’s hard not to

Hammered Botafoga v Sao Paulo over 2.5 goals last night!

0-0 at h/t with botafogo down to 10 men – put an equal bet on over 1.5 goals to try and claw something back! 4 goals in the last 15 minutes, a bit of luck at last! :)

Not sure if anyone was on Palmerias last night at 3/1?

There wasn’t the corner fest that there usually is however, they did win the race to 5 and 7 at 7/4 and 3/1

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Greg, cheers about Reims, I should have just done them to win because I fancied but looked at a couple of French tipsters who were thinking draw. I haven’t been getting involved in these overnight games, just too busy to take a proper look.

There’s usually a Singapore game on around 11.30 but not sure if there’s one today or if it’s worth betting on

  11. The Dane 11 years ago

    DENMARK.

Not far from an asian bet on Silkeborg tonight against Aalborg. The home side haven’t won since November, have lost all ready two games against Silkeborg this season and as some of you unforgiving gent’s might remember Silkeborg managed to beat FC Copenhagen in their last game.

But I still do not trust Silkeborg and are going for over 2.5 goals here. 58.3% of Aalborgs games at home have gone over and 69.2% of Silkeborgs away games the same. The two games played between the two sides had 3 and 5 goals.

Aab Aalborg – Silkeborg (6.00 UK)
    Over 2.5 goals
    Odds: 1,95
Stake: €10.00 (or 2% of the fixed €500.00 bankroll for this Danish only series)

31.15% interest so far on the €500.00.

    STAKING PLAN DEMONSTRATION (RESULT).

If I had used level stakes on the ten games posted from Friday to Sunday I would have made a decent 3.05% profit. Not a bad profit and a normal yield for a competent tipster.

By using my staking plan I increased that profit to 11.52%.

(All the games was picked up from free tipster sites)

    The Dane.

    • Allen 11 years ago

      Hi Dane,

Ask Mr F if you could do a weekly or bi-weekly ‘Staking Plan’ under its’ own heading, if possible.

It is a way to give a chance to people like me who love a flutter but can’t even pick their nose, never mind horses and outcomes of football matches to make a few Kronor, sorry Euros.

      Regards,

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Allen, if The Dane wants to do that he’s welcome.

    • The Dane 11 years ago

      Hi Allen,

I might have a talk with Mr. Fixit about that – I might even have an idea of a format which could be fun.

There would be no Milesey if it wasn’t for Mr Fixit and from what I can see, they are both picking winners, As do a lot of the other regulars on the site!

geesaclue, I know you’re responding to the stupid comment that I’ve deleted but Milesey and I are not competing against each other, we’re both trying to put up winners which we do. I can’t believe someone slating me for tipping Ronaldo and Messi to both score first when they did. Would he rather I picked a couple of losers?

  18. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Muzzy could be on to something there, haha! :)

I’ll be honest, I come on here to see what other people’s thoughts/ tips are, more often than not though, I pick my own selections and post them up! Gets on my nerves though when tips have been posted, they haven’t come in then people come on here moaning!

There are 7 or 8 people who post frequently who i enjoy reading, including your’s! :)

  19. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Okocha, no bother wee man! ;)

All talk from you, never seen any of your selections on here?

As for my tips, like everyone else, I have winners and losers, I have more winners than I do losers though, otherwise I wouldn’t be on here!

It’s not often you get the chance to back Manchester United at odds-against playing at home this season and on price alone I feel duty bound to make them a recommended bet for this Monday night special.

Yes, City are their nearest opponents in the league and, yes, this is a derby match.
But records don’t get much stronger than United’s at Old Trafford with 14 wins from 15 games and I don’t buy the argument that City will win because they are the more motivated side.

Had Sir Alex Ferguson’s team won in the FA Cup at Chelsea on Easter Monday, they could possibly have been excused a reserved performance from a weaker than expected lineup with Fergie looking to safeguard his best players for a potential double.

They didn’t though, and there’s no reason to think that the Sir Alex will not field his best XI, and massively motivated for a fixture with nothing but pride at stake.

Successful betting is built on taking value prices and, at 2.34 to win, United are just that.

Old Trafford has been criticised for lacking atmosphere in recent times but there will be no lack of passion from a full house on Monday night. The capacity crowd and those watching at home will be expecting a cracking game from two of the most talented attacks in English football, but I feel it will be defences to the fore. The Opta stats back that up: City have kept the most clean sheets in the league this year (14) and United are next on the list with 11. David de Gea has not had to pick the ball out of his net in the last six league games.

With those stats on board I’m happy to take a chance on under 2.5 goals at odds-against. There have been plenty of goals in this game, but the equivalent fixture around this time last year finished 1-0 to City. Bold punters might take a chance on either team winning by a goal to nil at 10.0 for United and 13.0 for City.

Vincent Kompany scored the winner that night at the Etihad and his return is big for City. He scored against Newcastle as City romped to a 4-0 win and just having the captain back – both on the pitch and in the dressing room – will be huge. That just makes a tight game more likely and I don’t think his return will be enough to steer City to victory. Robin van Persie may have gone cold – not that I find that of any great concern – and I just fancy United to hold sway over their Noisy Neighbours by the odd goal.

      Recommended Bets

Back United to win @ 2.34
      Back Under 2.5 goals @ 2.16

In the Czech Gambrinus Liga 8/10 Vysocina Jihlava home games – including each of the last six – have produced Under 2.5 Goals. Nine of FC Brno’s 11 away matches – including each of the last eight – have also failed to break the excitement threshold.

Recommended Bet: Back Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.7 in Vysocina Jihlava v FC Brno

  32. Okocha 11 years ago

Didn’t slate you because they won. Was just merely stating that I think personally people come here to find information and tips they wouldn’t usually think of, Messi and Ronaldo to score first isn’t exactly a hard pick and I’m pretty sure a few 10 year olds could of got there dads to put that one on!

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Okocha, the bets won, that’s what you have to remember. Never slag a winning tip – doesn’t matter what it is. If 3-1 winning singles don’t interest you don’t back them but don’t slate me for tipping them. They just happened to be my singles that day, they weren’t the only tips I put up. I always try to find value and have put up plenty of big single winners this season. And you want someone else to take over the site – why don’t you create your own.

  37. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Okocha, do you get your dad to put your bets on?

From the sounds of it you do! Sometimes it makes sense to go for the “obvious” bet, it’s not as if they are 2/7 or 1/6, they are 2/1 and 3/1 so really don’t understand what the problem is! It’s not called ” Mr Fixit obscure bets only” there’s a wide variety of bets posted on here, doesn’t mean I an obvious one come up you shouldn’t back it ( its even more ridiculous that those tips came in)

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Greg, that’s the thing the prices I quoted on Messi and Ronaldo were 3-1 and 9-4, not be sniffed at for a single bet. Anyone whois a regular on here knows I never put up anything lower than 1-2 or 1-3 because they will be obvious bets. The problem when looking at Barca and Real, and remember these were high-profile Champions League games, is that Messi and Ronaldo always stand out to score first and if you want anyone else you probably have to go anytime.

  38. Mr H 11 years ago

Greg you can’t educate the ignorant my friend

Maximum stakes too minimal selections generally yields more consistent profits. I’d rather have 5 £20 bets up at evens than 1 out 5 up at 5/1

  39. Greg Browning 11 years ago

    Mr H, fair point :)

Yeah spot on, most my wins come from singles, anything higher than a treble is usually a bonus!

It seem everyone is divided on weather tonights game will be a low scoring game or a high scoring game. Im on the latter, I think will the quality of attackers on show we should be good for a few goals. The stats was seem to back that theory up.

Including the Community Shield match in 2011, the last five meetings between Manchester City and Manchester United (all comps) have seen 23 goals scored – an average of 4.6 a game.

Good luck which ever way you go

the chief, thing is with this game, it could go either way with goals or the outcome. I’ve seen tips for home, away, draw, btts, no btts, unders, overs etc. No one knows and that’s the problem sometimes. As I said earlier my only bet will be yes to btts then I might do something inrunning.

Yesturday I got out of jail with a little help from Mr F single on Reims (thanks for that Mr F) and my super single Remy to score anytime. Tonight super single is Man Utd. Only the mighty spurs have won at Old trafford with United winning the other 14. BetVictor have Man utd 29/20 for the win and I think thats worth taking.

I stated earlier that i fancy goals and thats shown with my bonkers bet.

    SUPER SINGLE

    MAN UNITED TO WIN

    BONKERS BET

Man Utd 3 Man City 2 pays 28/1 @ william hill

Good luck if your having a bet

It’s reassuring Milesey is on the Czech game to go under 2.5 goals, as they are one of my picks. Here is why

Jihlava have gone under 2.5 goals in 8 of their 10 home league games this season, their last 6 at home have featured just 5 goals!

The away side Brno have gone under 2.5 goals in 9 of their 11 away league games this season, their last 8 away have all gone under 2.5 goals. The last 4 meetings between these two sides played at Jihlava have all gone under three goals.

Under 2.5 goals can be backed at 1.66 at Pinnacle

Off to the evening kick off in Italy’s Serie B, and I’m going with Padova to feature less than three goals in their tie with Varese.

Padova’s home games have featured two goals or less in 10 of their last 12 home games (83.33%) with their last 7 home games coming under 1.5 goals! Their opponents today, Varese, have been involved in just as many boring games with 11 of their last away games featuring less than three goals (91.67)

Under 1.5 goals can be backed at an incredible 3.1 at Betway, which is great value when bookmakers are offering it as low as 2.5. Considering, many of the away teams away games have featured more than 1.5 goals I will take the safer option and go under 2.5 goals which can be backed at a best price of 1.65 at Betway

I will go for the double, which can be found at a best price of 2.64 at YouWin.

If you get on it, don’t give me abuse if it doesn’t come in. Have some balls and take responsibility for your own actions. Some of the finger pointing I’ve seen on here, especially towards Mr Fixit is pathetic and moronic.

Some idiot of Jihlava, has got himself sent off. Not a good start to the unders double

    • Milesey 11 years ago

The unders should roll in now, JIHLAVA are the better team but now can’t push forward for they are a man lighter, 0-0 for me all over it ;) ;)

1-0 Jihlava and there were a few chances which could so easily could have been scored. I agree, Jihlava edged it in the first half, but I’m just hoping they hold out for the one goal advantage they have considering they are one man lighter. From seeing the first half, they look like they want that second goal.
