I DON'T think I've ever talked about a game for so many days – and not it's here (Sunday, 2.05pm)

Punters have been backing Liverpool to beat Chelsea since Jose Mourinho insisted he wanted to field a weakened team at Anfield ahead of Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.

The Reds were 11-10 then 1-1 then 9-10 and now about a best 7-10. Even if they field the best available line-up Liverpool will be without the likes of Petr Cech, John Terry, Ramires and Samuel Eto'o.

And here's the thing even if Chelsea were at full strength I'd be on Liverpool who have swept aside Man City, Arsenal, Everton and Man Utd at home this season as they close in on the title.

Goal machine Luis Suarez is 7-2 (various) for the first goal and it's worth noting Ladbrokes will refund stakes on the usual markets if the game ends in a draw.

Chelsea's loss at Sunderland last weekend means they're just about out of it the title race and I can see why Mourinho's focus will be on reaching the Champions League Final.

I already put up a Sunday Super Single of Liverpool -1 at 19-10 – and that was back on Wednesday with the best price now 17-10.

Recommended Bets

Liverpool -1
(17-10, Ladbrokes)

Suarez to score first
(7-2, various)

I have taken Liverpool in a 4/1 enhanced betway treble including Sunderland and City. Can’t see them giving away anything at home, even in a massive game like this.

I don’t believe he’ll rest players. Fancy Liverpool to edge it, but terrible odds in my opinion.

Jose’s squad is a bit thin but his “young men” won’t be dummies .Will Liverpool handle the pressure. Not a betting opportunity for me,but should be great to watch.

Chelsea know how to stifle better teams, the year they won the Champions league they did this non stop and a couple of games in this years campaign so it would not surprise me if Chelsea set up to stop the first half hour onslaught.
Liverpool have been a bit special of late so I’m still taking them to edge this.

I really feel this is the type of game noone should ever need to bet on. I plan to enjoy it without the fear of losing some cash and also because quite frankly, 7/10 is a shocking price. This is Chelsea. I do not think Liverpool will win -1 and would not at all be surprised to see a draw. I hope Liverpool can do it, but it’s much more fun just to enjoy it rather than worrying about it.

Indeed there are plenty good opportunities tomorrow, and here are my early selections, all checked with stats on whoscored.com.

    LIVORNO V LAZIO 4/7
    BILBAO V SEVILLA 8/13
    SCHALKE V MOENCHENGLADBACJ 4/7

    Cagliari v Parma 4/6
    valencia v Atletico Madrid 5/6

I said from last week i know mourinho will play his strongest team possible, and chelsea and liverpool over the years there have been many draws, and we know mourinho loves to park the bus,as he did last week against athletico. Having said that i believe liverpool will break through the double decker and still score at least 2 goals to win. So get on liverpool to win,or for a safety net also get on half time draw aswell. Mourinho is going to taste defeat twice in the coming week, first to liverpool then to athletico…

I think there will be a massive upset today and Chelsea to 2-1 mourinho rarely gets the big games wrong .

i said straight a1ay Wednesday when Mr fix it said About Liverpool -1 that i don’t actually believe Mourinho will put out a weak side. Likes of Lampard, mikel, salah and matic should all definitely play as can’t play Wednesday. Yes cech, Terry, hazard, Etoo are missing. But hardly likely Chelsea don’t have any capable replacements. Mourinho will never field a team he doesn’t feel is capable of getting a job done. Personally, I think Liverpool may just edge it, although that said, I wouldn’t be overly surprised with any outcome. Not a match for betting in my opinion. But good luck to those that are, unless you’re backing Liverpool!!

    Palace
    sunderland / draw
    bilbao / draw

  17. alva glen 12 years ago

Chelsea start with no centre back of note so now am on Liverpool and going with Mr.F. -1 doubled with Celtic same handicap.

  18. Luke A 12 years ago

Chelsea line up is missing majority players that will play Wednesday, but it’s still good enough to get something out of this game. I pointed out Wednesday i thought Mourinho may start Kalas, as he’s held in high regard by him. I still expect narrow Liverpool victory, but wouldn’t be surprised with anything from this game.

  19. Luke A 12 years ago

Ivanovic is a centre back, as is Kalas

    • alva glen 12 years ago

Ivanovic plays at right back all the time for Chelsea end of.

  20. Luke A 12 years ago

Well well well all the warning signs were there. Chelsea just don’t know when to give up! That result does much more for city than does for Chelsea though. I definitely didn’t see That result coming in fairness, but would never have written us off.

  21. Sanj 12 years ago

Well done Luke what odds would you have got on 2-0 before the game?

  22. Luke A 12 years ago

Not a clue mate, wouldn’t have even crossed my mind to look. I’d never have expected Chelsea to keep a clean sheet today. I thought a 1-1 draw was a very possible outcome. Never thought Liverpool would win comfortably

    • macca the red 12 years ago

i totaly disagree with you luke a your team never came to play football they come to defend like trojans,,had gerrard not made that mistake liverpool would have gone on to win the game imo or at least a draw, fair play chelsea can defend they showed that against athletico.

  23. Speedy 12 years ago

Chelsea don’t know when to give up,,,erm what? Brendan should’ve parked the bus too as nil nil wdv suited liverpool . Tactics all wrong Lucas shouldn’t have started or joe Allan knowing what was coming bus parking etc . C’mon Madrid

Typical reds saying only one team wanted to play. A title so close in your hands and all you needed was a point from the game, you only know one way to play. Chelsea just completely frustrated you the whole game, they had the better opportunities with Coles effort and Kalas. Mourinho is a master tactician, every pundit praised him for it and also our 3500 fans we took which I one. Rogers got it all wrong from start to finish, you only have to listen to the experts to understand that. Typical reds once again showing no class with there reviews of the game, very one sighted. I still think Liverpool have a good chance as Everton will be tough for City, but there lack of class as fans and there behaviour outside the stadium after shows there original true colours coming through time after time…..

  25. Luke A 12 years ago

Well said Sam. This is the exact reason i want city to win the league, due to Liverpool fans being so idiotic with majority of things they say. I enjoy watching Liverpool play (especially yesterday, they were stifled no end) but their fans show very little class, if any at all. At the same time, if Liverpool do win the league, I’m more than happy for Gerrard to lift the trophy, finally!! Would love to know on what basis macca you honestly feel Liverpool would’ve won that game if it wasn’t for Gerrards extremely ironic slip? We had coles effort, penalty shout, Kalas missing a sitter and bas goal in first half, you had sakho and suarez with efforts. Second half we had schurrle force Mignolet into as good a save as any in the match. It’s all well and good having so much possession, but when you haven’t got any penetration, and limited to Gerrard taking shots from 25+ yards each time he gets the ball, i think you’ll find Rodgers was well and truly masterclassed by Mourinho. As for Madrid Wednesday, I make them slight favourites, as I can’t see chelsea keeping another clean sheet.
Lastly, Ivanovic is primarily a centre back, as he showed yesterday with an awesome performance. Plays there for Serbia, and would play there for Chelsea if we didn’t already have Cahill and Terry who have been outstanding this season
