WITH three straight losses and Deportivo managing three straight wins, Mallorca have plummeted to the bottom of La Liga, four points away from safety due to their inferior goal difference of minus 24.
They were not helped by a 5-0 walloping at the Nou Camp last weekend and desperately need three points today.
More concerning for is their home form. They beat Sevilla two weeks ago but that was Los Bermelones’ only home win since beating Valencia last September.
The boys from Pontevedra are in nearly as bad shape as their hosts after collecting just four points away from home all season. Abel Resino’s team lie in 23rd position having lost four of the last six games.
The last encounter between these two ended in a stalemate, which makes the draw a tempting shout for this relegation battle.

2-1 home win too give the hosts a glimmer of hope of survival
any thoughts on den bosch game the night anyone?
Mark, if having a bet I’d be on Almere to beat Den Bosch. Two teams evenly matches but Almere are scoring goals and have won their last three at home. Den Bosch struggling in the form tables but have one of the best-named grounds in the world – BrainWash Stadium.
mr f after more studying i opted to take den bosch, thought it would be a close game but so far theyre up 4-0 lol
Mark, on form it looked like an Almere win but it wasn’t a game I decided to have a bet on.
As a season ticket holder for the last four years I’ve become used to Mallorca’s frustrating inconsistency. Tonight I again expect it to be a jittery affair, but there have been glimpses especially in the 5-2 loss away at Real Madrid of some of the early season passing that led us to 3 wins and 2 away draws in the first five games. Alan Hutton has settled in well and Giovani De Santos is starting to show a bit of form you would have expected from the Mexican international since losing some weight. We play at home again on friday night so this really is a make or break week in our hopes of avoiding the drop. The potential to start next weekends games before anyone else plays with back to back victories can’t be stated highly enough.
La Liga differs from some other leagues in that teams’ head-to-head records are used to separate them if they are equal on points. Whichever team has the best goal difference in the two matches will be placed highest if the points are equal. If head-to-head goal difference is the same, goal difference over the entire season is used, and then goals scored.
When more that two teams are sharing the same number of points, the points accumulated in the matches between the teams are used to rank them, then goal difference if required. If this is not sufficient, goal difference over the entire season is used, and then goals scored. Further tie-breakers are seldom required beyond that.
We drew our first game against Celta Vigo and has already been pointed out our goal difference is really poor if it comes in to play. Therefore this game takes on even more significance. The potential to start next weekends games before anyone else plays with back to back victories can’t be stated highly enough.
As such if you don’t mind a rocky ride as we have only kept 3 clean sheets all season the last being 29nov2012.
Both teams to score and a home win .
Good luck to all betting tonight. I’m off to the match :-)
Scousorca, enjoy the game. I can see you edging it but I’ve kep the draw on side. We’ve got you at Mallorca and The Dane at Nordsjaelland so we’re well travelled on the site. And I’ll be at Arthurlie on Wednesday so not sure if I’d swap for Mallorca!
you coming to barrhead to watch the mighty lee mr f lol.
James, I’ll be there – to watch the Bankies. Your guys look safe now so not expecting too much from the game.
more goals for juve whats your thoughts
Cheers Mr F, enjoyed the result, the game well shall we say not one for the purest. The preverbial rocky ride it was with Giovani De Santos continueing his good form and getting the 92nd minute winner.
Initial quick thoughts for friday’s difficult game at home to Rayo Vallecano a team in 8th, chasing and only 6 points from a European place. Need Nunes to start at centre half to see us getting much from the game.
Enjoy Arthurlie on Wednesday and hopefully 3points for my Toffees tomorrow at the gooners, although I can’t see it or bet on it, due to superstition ;-)
Scouseorca, game probably went the way I expected and you’ll be happy with the win. Was Alan Hutton playing for you?
Yes desperately needed to! He’s on loan and seems to have settled in well the last few games, he’s played about 8 or 9 games now. Surprised if we will get to keep him though due to financial constraints!!
