Johnny Ringo wasn't able to be a winning selection on his hurdles debut for Cairnzy. He ran a creditable race by finishing as runner-up and put in a nice effort in the closing stages, but was eventually brushed aside by the Lucinda Russell horse.

Galop De Chasse 5/2 – Newbury 2.30
I went against Galop De Chasse when he was in the race I stuck up Prairie Wolf at Wetherby a couple of weeks ago. At the time of studying that race, I thought that the form of his races last season wasn't that strong and that he had to prove that he was capable of winning off his current mark. I thought he ran a belter at Wethery and left the impression that he is definitely on a good handicap mark, and as a result, gets my vote in today's tricky handicap.
I'm fairly certain I stuck him up when he won at Newbury in November of last year when beating the Nicholls horse, Kandoo Kid. The runner-up has franked the form quite a lot since and is now rated in the low 140s, so given there was only a couple of pounds different in the weights that day, Galop De Chasse could easily still be well handicapped if you take that form literally.
Venetia Williams doesn't have many runners during the summer months, but when she returns to jump racing at this time of year she often hits the ground running and this year is no different. She landed a lovely treble last Saturday, including a Grade 1 win at Haydock with Royale Pagaille. Her yard is in superb condition and with Galop De Chasse having a recent runout, his fitness should be bang there for today's race.
Guy 7/1 (each way 3pl) – Doncaster 2.05
This type of race isn't something I'd want to get involved in, but I can't help but think it looks a lot worse than it is, and given Guy normally wins when running off a mark of -122, and now he gets James Turner on board, claiming 7lbs off 128, I think he is worth a bet on Friday.
Guy is a horse who has plenty of ability and that has always been the case, but for whatever reason he has been inconsistent over the years, but he normally produces his best efforts when his handicap mark takes a tumble and generally does his best on good ground. Both of what I've just said is in his favour today, and in a race where a lot of the horses aren't in great form, I thought Guy was the stand-out horse in this race.
Onemorefortheroad is also dropping to a good mark and could be dangerous if he gets an uncontested lead, and Barton Knoll would be of major notice if rolling back the years off a very low mark.
