Racing tips: 165,000 Euro Purchase Go Athletico will be doing a rain dance at Cork

It's always nice when all of the selections of the day win like yesterday. I thought both winners were given excellent rides. Billy Lee positioned Ocean Jewel close to the pace and that allowed him a clear run on his horse when he wanted. Also, Mia Nicholls is fastly becoming one of my favourite claiming jockeys, she schooled Buick, she boxed him in and then kicked at the right under a perfectly judged ride on Flying Secret. 

Tipping the night before is good most of the time, but some of these horses have been winning at drifted prices, which is good for you lot who get on in the morning of the races, but for me, I'm missing out on some extra profit!

Sandown 3:15 – Spirit Of The Bay 8/1 (0.5pt EW)

I'm not going to lie, this isn't the most convincing selection that I've posted, but the odds make him worthy of a bet.

Some of you might remember Spirit Of The Bay being mentioned in a race preview I put up the other day, which resulted in my horse finishing second. I said that I thought she had a great chance in that race, but the weight she had to concede that day to the younger horses would've been a tough ask. She was eventually a NR that day due to the ‘ground', which is complete nonsense and they've come to Sandown as I imagine they think this is an easier assignment, even though on paper I'd tend to disagree, but I trust their judgement.

I was a big fan of the win at Haydock under Richard Kingscote, he gave her a great ride, snuck her into the race from the back of the field, brought her wide to deliver her challenge and when she was given the all-clear she breezed past the field and won in taking fashion. The fourth-placed horse was a winning tip the other week when Frankie went to Kempton for one ride, so the form looks fairly solid, and off a 5lb higher mark I think she could be very dangerous to underestimate, and has Buick on board today which is nearly always a positive (apart from yesterday in Flying Secret's race 😉)

Cork 6:00 – Go Athletico 2/1 (1pt Bet365)

I will be doing a rain dance for Go Athletico who will need the forecast rain to land and land fairly heavy at Cork to give him the best chance of winning.

This is his first run for Adrian McGuiness after connections purchased him for a relatively hefty fee of 165,00 Euros. In the grand scheme of things in the flat scene, that's not a great deal of money, but for a smaller stable to invest that much money into a horse, they must be confident he can turn into a Group 2/1 performer on Irish/British land. Based on what we've seen from him in his career to date, he looks like a nice acquisition for the McGuiness yard, he is versatile over trips, but would probably be best over 6f or 5.5f as his career-best run came last time out over 5.5f when he landed a Listed race recording an RPR of 115. Soft ground seems to be a big thing for him, hence why I'd like it to pour down at Cork, they are expecting a fair few millimetres of rain, so hopefully it'll send the ground to at least good to yielding.

He has to carry top weight in this contest, but I can only see Ano Syra being the one to trouble him, especially with 8lb weight difference, but if the rain does come, not many, if any, will like slow ground, so I am being very reliant on the weather. There's no doubts that Go Athletico is the best horse in the race, and he shouldn't have much fitness issues with him winning 70 days ago.
