THERE'S been a lot of debate on this site about cash out and I'm firmly in the neutral corner.
For sure it's been introduced to benefit bookies but if you're savvy you can make it work for you. More than anything that means not diving in and accepting any offer – and if you like the cash-out option follow your bets closely, pick your moment and make sure the odds are in your favour when you hit the button.
Leicester fans with 5000-1 to win the Premier League have been going through all sorts of agonies and some who cashed out months ago will feel they've missed an opportunity when their team raises the trophy aloft at the end of the season.
A Betfair punter made a brilliant cash out decision on Saturday to win £53,000 from a bet that would have been a loser.
He stood to potentially win £1.5 million for his 22-team accumulator – he obviously doesn't believe in doing singles, doubles and trebles – but after 16 winners were clocked up he took the £53k offer 20 minutes before Barcelona kicked off away to Real Sociedad.
And what a great decision that proved to be as Barca crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat ahead of their Champions League return away to Atletico Madrid.
Michael Bowers, Football Trader at Betfair, said: “This is the mother of all cash outs with the customer correctly predicting Barcelona weren't going to do the business against Real Sociedad. The UK customer in his late 20s would have been elated to see Barcelona failing to find the net.
“This punter's nerve would have already been put to the test after the 15th leg of his 22 fold accumulator as he watched Man City go 1-0 down against West Brom. Having refused a cash out of £25,000 ahead of the late kick-off in the Premier League he would have been incredibly relieved to see Manuel Pellegrini's men manage to pull it back in the second half.”

I bet he’d have won a lot more than £53k had he just put the early 16 team acca on .
If you think you would cash out a bet before some games even kick off, you might as well leave them out your line altogether.
Not many people would be comfortable having a £10 bet, now worth £5000, rolling onto one final game, so they’ll happily cash out for £4000. Leave the last game off your coupon and you don’t have the problem. £5000 winnings already in your account, and you can put some of that on the last game if you want.
I think when QPR scored in the 94th minute to win he must have thought his luck was in. Man City game probably broke his nerve though. I had a few quid on them and I was bricking it but certainly nothing like a potential £1.5m with £53k cash-out.
I then stupidly stuck some money on Barca before I actually looked at their awful record at the Anoeta. That’s why he won 53k and I won bugger all :)
ooseven, I think all of us would be happy to win £53k and many of us would have cashed out then or before.
I struggle to get a two team acca, never mind a twenty two team acca.
