It's a huge night for Celtic in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers as they host Austrian side LASK in the first leg of their play-off clash.

The Hoops have a poor record in these high-stakes shoot-outs, missing out in seven of their last nine attempts, and the latest flop came just a year ago against Kairat Almaty.

But the Parkhead board have spent big on their attack this summer and will be looking for an instant return as they bid to return to Europe's top table.

Celtic vs LASK top betting tips

Despite their terrible record in Champions League qualifiers, Celtic are hot 4/9 favourites with Bet365 to go through, with the Austrians 13/8 in the same market.

Those odds look a bit off to me, especially with Sturm Graz battering Hearts 6-0 on aggregate in another Scotland v Austria clash earlier in Champions League qualifying this season.

A lot will depend on how LASK cope with a packed Parkhead in tonight's first leg but it could pay to have a punt on them qualifying before a ball is kicked at a pretty generous price.

Most of Celtic's summer spending has been on revamping their forward line, with £11million splashed on Bodo/Glimt's Kasper Hogh.

The Dane impressed in the Champions League for his old club and scored a hat-trick on his second appearance for the Hoops.

He's 11/10 tonight for over 1.5 efforts on target and that looks decent value as plenty of chances have been falling his way so far this season.

NEC vs Bodo/Glimt

Hogh's old club Bodo/Glimt are looking to embark on another Champions League adventure and take on NEC in Nijmegen in the first leg of their play-off tonight.

The Norwegian side cleared a big hurdle in the last round of qualifiers, edging out Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise 6-5 on aggregate in a thrilling tie that went to extra time.

NEC's clash with Olympiakos also went to extra time and the Dutch side caused a minor shock by dumping the Greek giants with a 2-1 aggregate win.

The team from Nijmegen don't have a great pedigree in Europe though and Bet365 make them 11/8 outsiders to reach the group stage, with Bodo/Glimt 8/15 in the same market.

A home win looks crucial to their hopes of progressing and NEC will fancy their chances against a defence that shipped five goals across those two games with Union Saint-Gilloise.

Bodo/Glimt will offer a threat going forward though and I fancy goals at both ends tonight. Combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals pays just 4/6 with Bet365 but over 1.5 first-half goals is better at 11/10.

Atletico Madrid vs Malaga

It's now six years since Atletico Madrid's last La Liga title success and they'll be hoping tonight's season opener against Malaga is the catalyst for another shot at glory.

Diego Simeone's side had a disappointing domestic campaign last term, finishing a massive 28 points behind champions Barcelona as Villarreal pipped them to third place.

It has been a relatively quiet summer in the transfer market but Atletico have managed to hold on to their star players, although speculation continues to rage over striker Julian Alvarez.

They should be too strong for promoted Malaga in their first outing of the new campaign, with Los Boquerones back in the top flight after an eight-year absence.

Simeone's priority will be tightening up a defence that was uncharacteristically leaky last term, with Atletico conceding 44 times in their 38 La Liga games.

The home win pays just 1/3 tonight but if you combine that with a clean sheet it boosts the odds to 10/11 at Bet365.

Kang-in Lee is the big summer signing for Atletico and the former PSG star is a tempting evens to score or assist on his debut.
