We now know the final 24 team that will contest this summer’s European Championships and the good news is there’s no more international football until June!

It was heartbreak for Wales in Cardiff last night as they suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to Poland. That means it’s the Poles who’ll take their place in Group D alongside Netherlands, Austria and France.

Ukraine and Georgia were the other big winners, booking their place at the finals at the expense of Iceland and Greece.

Ukraine have a great chance to get out of Group E which includes Belgium, Slovakia and Romania, whilst Georgia will be lively outsiders against Portugal, Czech Republic and Turkey who were thumped 6-1 by Austria last night.

Jude Bellingham salvaged a draw for England to prevent back-to-back defeats at Wembley but the Three Lions remain favourites at 3/1 to win Euro 2024 with France just behind at 10/3.

Germany boosted their confidence with wins over France and Netherlands. The odds of home success now stand at 6/1.

Scotland suffered a sobering defeat at home to Northern Ireland despite boasting 82% possession. Off the back off a 4-0 defeat to the Netherlands it wasn’t the international break Steve Clark would’ve hoped for but his squad deserve to be cut a bit of slack and perhaps it was the reality check they needed before the serious stuff starts in June.

Here’s the latest odds from Skybet.

  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England 3/1
  • 🇫🇷 France 10/3

    Why are England favourites.
When the moment of truth arrives they freeze, games v Croatia France and Italy in recent tournaments prove this
And I don’t necessarily blame the players, under Southgate they have now played teams ranked in the top 6 in the rankings at the time 16 times and won 2.

I would think this team under someone like Terry Venables who let his team play to their strengths would be worthy favourites as on paper they have most bases covered but under Southgate I see another load of hype leading up to another quarter or semi final loss once they play someone of note.

Someone asked me which manager out there would I choose if I was an England fan, an interesting question 🤔.
I blurted out the name Jürgen klopp and after thinking about it he would be a perfect fit as he knows the game here inside out and he is available.
Southgate strikes me as a championship manager in charge of an international team.

And yes I’m a bitter welshman ☹️, we finished 3rd in the group and only got in the play off because of our nations cup performance which is a farce In itself and didn’t deserve to qualify so as a Celt I will become an honorary Scotsman in June if they’ll have me 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I’m an Englishman and can’t for the life of me figure out how we are favourites. Certainly not a bet I will be placing. France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands I think all have more chance than us. Mainly because of Southgate

    • MrBigChug 1 month ago

Morning all. They are favourites because they have the most talented players and squad by a long long way. Southgate is not the best but what he has lacked in positive approach he has definitely gained in keeping the squad together and cohesive, and the fact remains he has still seen England to there best tournament performances in decades whether people like it or not. To win any tournament you need a little bit of luck along the way and that is all it is going to take for England to win this summer imo.

Bigchug you hit the nail on the head….Southgate is not the best & until England employ a manager that wants too play open and expansive football then it’ll be much of the same. Southgates football ethos is outdated and dull,Mourinho has suffered the same fate in recent times in much the same way because he won’t move with the times. England would be in a far stronger position too justify the favourites tag if they had a style like Klopp,Pep or big Ange.

Out of interest the French are my favourites and Spain 2nd. England, Germany, Holland and Italy will be QF’s or further but come up short when it matters

How can Scotland only be 100/1?

We are woeful and will be lucky to scrape a point in the summer.

    • cockerspaniel 1 month ago

Probably because the bookies think that most of the money will be on England .

England have some world class players, Harry Kane one of the most consistent strikers out there, Jude Bellingham who’s on another level and can only improve further. I wouldn’t read to much in to friendlies just gone as the starting 11 won’t be the eleven we seen. England will be there or there a-bouts come the end of the tournament. They maybe don’t warrant the favourites tag but they should be close.

Also worth noting Elvis is the same every time Wales don’t qualify for a tournament, turns his attentions to England, you can bet your bottom dollar if this wasn’t a Scottish site he’d turn his attentions that way but he hasn’t got the balls lol.

      Every time MACCA ?
We didn’t qualify for world cup 2018 and this tournament.
      Before that it was 2014,
Hardly constitutes turning on England every time twice in 10 years.

I like the Scots, like us we know our place and qualifying for the odd tournament is an achievement and not a gimme and make no noises about how we will do, take it as it comes aye

With England they seem to think they have a divine right to be winning these tournaments and in recent times they have had the players to do this but have failed either because of poor management choice (Southgate) or maybe because they don’t have the mental fortitude, bottling it is probably a poor phrase to use, they did against Italy especially where they became paralysed by fear as the Italians started to press for the equaliser and Southgate stood on the touchline seemingly unable to stem the tide.

I wager klopp, or a lot of top managers would have recognised this and nipped it in the bud.

      Ps MACCA.

What do you think of Portugal’s chances ?
No one above mentioned them as candidates.
They have a decent roster and will be a danger to most teams for me
