IT'S hard to believe that we're on the cusp of the business end of the season with all competitions reaching a thrilling conclusion and we don't have a single game in the UK to speak of on Wednesday.
There's not much happening across the whole of Europe either thanks to the international break which kicks-off on Thursday. But we're sure our stalwarts in the comments will find some bets worth looking at from across the globe!
At least there's some competitive action on Thursday including eight countries in crucial World Cup play-off matches. Sadly the Russia v Poland and Scotland v Ukraine have been cancelled but in a rare moment of foresight the Scottish FA have conjured up a friendly with the Poles. Melbourne Victory v Western United (A-League)
Victory host Western United in a fixture, the night before the all-important Socceroos clash against Japan. This means that Victory will be without Folami and D’Agostino, who are both very solid attacking players for the hosts. Western United are also missing players, in the form of Lacroix, Kilkenny and Diamanti, who are all key players.
We will see a number of young and unblooded players in both squads. This could either be an open goal fest, but more likely to be a cagey encounter. I suspect the teams may fall back to set pieces to try and get something out of this game, and Victory in particular are mad for a corner.
Brisbane Roar v Melbourne City (A-League)
Brisbane were ruthless in their last game, absolutely bossing Perth Glory and running out 4-1 winners. It’s very much unlike the side they have been all season, but City are an entirely different proposition to Glory. City are missing a host of players on international duty, notably Jamie Maclaren, whilst Matt Leckie is still unlikely to feature due to injury.
City do have a deep squad though, and I can’t see Roar getting anything out of this game.
