The US Open is well and truly heating up now, with the first two rounds bringing some brilliant action – and stunning upsets. Heading into the tournament’s first weekend, there are plenty of excellent matches to bet on on day six. We’ve broken down matches between Matteo Arnaldi and Jordan Thompson, plus Flavio Cobolli and Daniil Medvedev to give you our betting tips of the day.
Best US Open betting tips for day 6
Here are the best bets that we see on day six of the US Open in New York:
Thompson to beat Arnaldi @ 4/5
The clash between Jordan Thompson and Matteo Arnaldi is as close as it gets. Two places separate the two in the ATP rankings, with Arnaldi ahead in the official rankings but Thompson in front in the live rankings.
Bookies have it at 4/5 each way as well, with just a 0.5 game handicap to Thompson. Read: this one is going to be tight.
We’re backing the Aussie to win this one though, because of his serve and suitability in these conditions. He’s also been slightly more consistent with his form leading into the US Open.
Thompson took out Hubert Hurkacz in the second round as well, returning brilliantly to upset the No. 7 seed. That’s a better measure of success than Arnaldi’s two wins so far, which have been against two players outside the world’s top 50.
This one will be a battle, and for a higher returning bet, backing Thompson to win but both players to claim a set (13/8) is a great bet too.
Medvedev to beat Cobolli 3-1 @ 9/4
Medvedev has had a challenging year by his standards, accruing a 35-13 win-loss ahead of New York. This included a few uncharacteristic early losses on hard courts, such as in Canada to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
However, he seems to have found his groove just in time here at the US Open, and has looked sharp across the opening two rounds. The Russian has seen off Fabian Marozsan and Dusan Lajovic comfortably, dropping one set to the latter but otherwise being largely unchallenged.
We expect he will have a tougher time against Cobolli, but should ultimately get through this one as well without too much damage.
Cobolli is an up-and-comer, currently sitting at a career high of No. 31 in the world, but doesn’t quite have the arsenal or consistency to oust Medvedev on a hard court. He has gone to four sets in both of his wins so far this tournament, showing flashes of brilliance and patches of averageness.
We expect a few flashes against Medvedev too, which should bag him a set at some stage, but it won’t be enough to win Cobolli the match.
