Euro 2024 Over 2.5 Goals betting

KILMARNOCK and St Mirren both take on Norwegian opposition tonight as they bid to take a big stride towards the play-offs in UEFA Conference League qualifying.

Scotland edged out the Norwegians in Euro 2024 qualifying and fans of both sides will be hoping that's an omen as they plot more continental adventures.

But the bookies have written St Mirren off against Brann while Tromso are also odds-on favourites to see off Killie across two legs.

Kilmarnock look to have the easier tie as the Tromso side they face are languishing in 13th place in Norway's top flight this season, just one point above the drop zone.

They're at Rugby Park for tonight's first leg and a win in front of a pumped-up crowd will be crucial to Killie's hopes of progressing to the play-offs.

Kilmarnock v Tromso top betting tips

Kilmarnock bowed out of Europa League qualifying with a 2-1 aggregate defeat by Cercle Brugge and will have plenty of regrets about the home leg at Rugby Park.

They were the better side for large spells of that game and missed a few chances late on as the Belgians escaped with a 1-1 draw. Cercle Brugge look to be a better side than Brann and the Norwegians' poor form makes a Kilmarnock win tonight tempting at 7/5 with Betfred.

It should be a tight game and neither side has been scoring a lot of goals of late. That makes the half-time draw appealing at 23/20 while under 2.5 goals pays 10/11.

Kilmarnock's home leg with Cercle Brugge produced 16 corners so over 10.5 flag kicks looks good for this tie at 5/4 with Bet365.

St Mirren v Brann top tips

While Kilmarnock face a team in poor domestic form, the same can't be said for St Mirren as Brann are currently second in Norway's top flight.

That's where the team from Bergen finished last term as well so this is a tough tie for the Buddies, although they can take heart from the fact they crushed Icelandic side Valur 4-1 in Paisley last week.

That means Stephen Robinson's men could be worth a punt at 5/6 in the double chance while the half-time draw appeals again at 5/4.

St Mirren take no prisoners and there could be a few meaty challenges in this one. That makes the card markets another good option and Shaun Rooney is 9/4 to go in the book at Bet365.

Felix Myhre will be at the heart of the midfield battle for Brann and he's a good long-odds option for a card at 11/2.

Panathinaikos v Ajax top tips

Football romantics like myself will be thinking of Total Football and Johan Cruyff when Ajax take on Panathinaikos in Europa League qualifying tonight.

This clash is a repeat of the 1971 European Cup Final at Wembley, the first of three successive wins for Cruyff and his Dutch masters in Europe's premier competition.

This Ajax side is a pale imitation of that vintage and the fact they find themselves in Europa League qualifying tells you everything about how bad last season was for the Dutch giants.

A trip to Greece is always tricky at this stage of the season and Betfred make the home side slight 6/5 favourites.

Swedish striker Alexander Jeremejeff scored three times for Panathinaikos as they saw off Botev Plovdid in the last round and he's 13/8 for another goal tonight.

Thursday's Football Tips: Super singles

  • HT draw in Kilmarnock v Tromso 23/20 Betfred
  • Alexander Jeremejeff anytime scorer 13/8 Betfred

Long shot

  • Brann's Felix Myhre to be carded 11/2 Bet365

    Olympic triple at 3.5/1
    India -0.5 v Spain men’s hockey
Brazil to beat USA women’s volleyball
USA -16.5 v Serbia men’s basketball (winning margin in group game was 26 points, Serbia had to play overtime in their last match whilst USA are getting better by the game, this is also a 5/6 single)

One for adding to accumulators could be Tikvah v Cluj, Cluj to win 13/20. Nominally it’s the home game for Tikvah but it’s being played in Bulgaria, without consulting an atlas I think that’s closer to Romania than Israel. Romanian league has played 4 games, Israel none.

    Asian line goals double @ 2.4/1 (bet365)
    Over 4.0,4.5 mgs

    Valerenga u19 vs Stromsgodset u19
    Lyn 1896 u19 vs Follo u19

    Bet builder @ 3/2 (Whill)
Brann to score & over 3.5 team corners
Tromso to score & over 3.5 team corners

Haven’t went with a full nap stake on either but don’t think either will be far off. I have a love hate relationship with valernega u19 as they are one of the only Norwegian teams who have two u19 sides, so they can be a mixed bag across the two leagues they play in. Strosmgodset on the other hand are generally good for a few goals. Lyn 1896 should put a fair few past follo, who I am hoping contribute to the total.

Brann and Tromso will give St mirren and Kilmarnock a good game, and have the benefit of being well into their season. Tromso have had a poor season domestically so far but are capable of causing problems while Branns league position probably flatters their actual performances but are a much harder task than taking on Valur. Scottish teams are notorious for falling on their face at this stage and while I wouldn’t back a result in the first leg, the Norwegian teams will fancy these games.

    Good luck ?
