Revenge will be in the air in Luxembourg where Ireland will be aiming to finish a disappointing qualifying campaign with a win.
Results and performances have been much improved since the Irish lost to tonight's opponents back in March. It took two late goals by Ronaldo for Portugal to get the better of them in the Algarve and the Irish deserved a well-earned point against the Portuguese last week. They're now six unbeaten and in fact have lost just once in their last nine.
Luxembourg are a much-improved side but still struggle against higher-ranked opposition and the Irish feel-good-factor can carry them to victory at 11/10.
Sweden look to have blown their chances of automatic qualification following a 2-0 defeat to Georgia on Thursday. The Scandanavians were in pole position and looked like they'd need just a point from the crunch match with Spain on the final matchday of Group B, however they now travel to Seville in need of a win against the 2010 winners.

Haven’t posted here in a long time, but been having a lot of success using the Martingale Strategy so thought I’d try to start posting my bets again.
Those who aren’t familiar with this system, basically picks are targeted at evens+ (2.00+), if a bet losses, you simply double your stake on the next bet – this covers the original loss and gives the original stake as profit when you win.
A drawback to this system is the stakes can increase massively if you go on a bad run (this is why some punters aren’t a fan) – my amendment to this system however, is implementing a stop-loss rule on the 5th losing bet.
A stop-loss is usually seen when talking stocks, and is something that can be implemented when a certain threshold has been exceeded – to cover taking big losses on investments. (Quite common if using leverage)
What this does, is allows 5 very well researched bets to run their course – if all 5 lose, you cut your losses and begin with your original stake.
In percentage chance terms, losing 5 straight bets at evens odds (2.00) is calculated as below:
0.5 (50%) is the chance of a single bet landing at 2.00 – as the bookies odds suggests this bet would land 50% of the time. (Obviously some people have an edge and the closing line may differ to 2.00 – but we are going off the odds taken upon placement)
5 losing bets is then calculated as 0.5×0.5×0.5×0.5×0.5 = 0.015625 – translated to 1.56% – meaning mathematically, you have a 1.56% chance of losing 5 straight bets at evens (2.00)
When it comes to sports/football betting, we all know things aren’t a formality – but we increase our chances further by researching as much as possible, rather than blindly backing evens shots.
We start with a 100 unit bankroll – with the original stake being 1 unit. 5 straight losses mean losing 31 units maximum – before restarting with 1 unit. All winning bets obviously add atleast 1 unit to the bankroll.
A perk to this method, is it allows to use a large number of bookmakers, meaning you can shop around for the best odds to squeak out as much profit as possible – also reducing the chances of a limited account of using only the one bookmaker.
As stated earlier, not all people are a fan of this method, but feel free to follow or watch with interest – if following, please decide what 1 unit is for you and stick to it. If you want to increase stakes at a later date, 31 units profit allows a 2.5% increase in the starting stake.

You know that I enjoyed your posts and betting experiments so don’t take this the wrong way – I’m just adding the post as a word of caution for any new punters who might read this but be unaware of the risks.
Martingale can be a very dangerous system in the wrong hands so please exercise caution and limit stakes with a cut off point within what you can afford.
Ultimately, it is fraught with misconceptions and the only reality is that you will win lots of smaller bets before losing the lot. This will happen every time because this is the principle of the system. The only way around that is to ‘get out’ at a certain point which, to be fair to Nathan, he was discplined with.
Any way, just my thoughts. Martingale is one of the oldest and simplest betting strategies so I guess the only question to ask yourself is that if it worked, why doesn’t everyone use it 😉

Completely agree, very dangerous method and should only be operated if you’re very disciplined and have a stop loss.
My opinion is the reason many fail, is lack of discipline- especially when gambling it is difficult for most.
In regards to your second point ie misconceptions before losing the lot, I disagree.
By having a stop loss, you’re capped at losing 31 units if losing 5 straight bets – which is less than a third of bankroll.
Before this, 31 points profit is very reasonable which allows a full wipeout to happen without taking a hit from your original bankroll.
It is also reported only 2-3% of entire bettors make a profit from gambling – which also makes you ask, why?
Biggest point of this system is having and using the stop loss – do not bypass it.
We all know sometimes the oldest methods are the best – and still used today no matter the advancements made
Nathan, what you are talking about are slight variations and timely interventions within your version of the Martindale which help of course.
The system IS fraught with mathematical misconceptions whatever you think and whilst the probability of something having an increasing chance of landing the longer it continues to fail is true based on LUCK, it is simply not mathematically correct!
My worry would be that folk take it at base value without exercising caution or adding any get out clauses…a one way ticket to the poor house.

Line ups are out for the 5 o’clock games and there’s a couple of bets that take my fancy. The Germans are thru but they go strong and face an Armenian side who’ve downed tools and drawn 1-1 with mighty Lichtenstein and been battered 5-0 by Macedonia in their last 2 home games. With hansi flick not long in the job he will be looking establish different aspects in their play and won’t accept any slacking and I think they’ll swat the Armenians aside. The other game I fancy involves Lichtenstein and Romania, the away side need to win to have any chance of 2nd and will be pushing for goals, which usually leads to a lot of corners. My personal take on this Martindale betting system is it shouldn’t be used on a public site.
Fine for personal use but it’s only a vehicle for chasing losses and unless you have plenty of zeros in your bank account it’s a dangerous game.
And if you do have plenty of zeros in your bank account why gamble.
Example you set your self a target to win 100.
100 at evens loses
Next bet to achieve the 100 profit
200 at evens gets you your initial bet stake back plus 100 profit.
But if bet 2 loses also.
Next bet to achieve the 100 profit
400 at evens gets you the 300 already lost back plus 100 profit.
If bet 3 goes down then this is when it gets dangerous.
This is just my opinion so don’t take it the wrong way nathan, each to their own and good luck and may the betting god’s be with you…..
My thoughts exactly Elvis – any betting model that relies on ‘doubling down’ to recoup losses on the previous bet is fraught with danger.
In Nathan’s defence, what he is using isn’t really Martindale but a similar system with safeguards and common sense built in.
The sad reality is that many won’t have the discipline to stick to the mechanisms he is suggesting that work for him.
I’ll stick to my current method which is losing in a much more straightforward manner 😂
