Michael Carrick is under mounting pressure as Manchester United host Bournemouth at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Red Devils have endured a nightmare start to the season, and Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat away at Como in the Champions League only made matters worse.
Carrick is now clinging to his job ahead of a visit from a Bournemouth side that beat Sunderland 2-0 last weekend and followed that up with an impressive 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night.
I’ve already covered this clash in a separate match preview, but I’m taking the opportunity to look at one of my recommended selections in more detail.
The angle I’m keen to attack at Old Trafford is Tyler Adams committing two or more fouls, a selection I’ve already backed successfully this season.
I tipped the all-action American to be penalised at least twice during the Cherries’ last top-flight road trip at Chelsea, and he duly obliged with five fouls and a yellow card.
Going slightly further back, Adams committed three fouls at home to Liverpool and another three away at Newcastle, two of the three games before Bournemouth’s trip to Stamford Bridge.
He has also committed three fouls across his three Europa League appearances this season.
Although he didn’t commit a foul against AC Milan on Thursday night, Adams was involved in the flashpoint that saw goalkeeper Mike Maignan sent off and picked up a yellow card himself.
Adams’ combative streak is likely to be on show again at Old Trafford, where he could come up against Man United midfielders Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans, who have drawn 1.71 and 2.14 fouls per game respectively in the Premier League this season.
He is also likely to be in close contact with United captain Bruno Fernandes, who was fouled three times during the Red Devils’ last top-flight home game against Tottenham.
Given all that, Adams is worth backing to commit two or more fouls at a value price of 5/6 with bet365.
