Slipstips Bet Builder Tips

After delivering a winning selection on Sunday, SlipsTips shares a Bet Builder ahead of Partick Thistle and Ayr United’s Scottish Premiership play-off quarter-final first leg tie on Tuesday night.

Partick Thistle vs Ayr United (Tuesday, 19:45)

Partick Thistle and Ayr United face off in the first leg of their Scottish Premiership play-off tie at Firhill on Tuesday night.

The Jags secured a top four finish on the final night of the season by battling their way to an impressive 1-0 win away at Livingston.

Ayr United, on the other hand, have been locked in third spot for a number of weeks now as they gear up for the pressure cooker of the play-offs.

Partick Thistle Double Chance

While Ayr United come into Tuesday night’s first leg as the bookmakers’ favourites, there is a strong enough case to be made to side with Partick Thistle on the Double Chance. The Jags will enter this first leg in good spirits following their aforementioned win over Livingston on Friday night. What's more, that victory came off the back of a 2-1 win over league winners Falkirk, so morale will be high in the Firhill camp.

The Maryhill outfit can also draw confidence from their strong home record this term, losing just two of their 18 home games during the regular season. That 18-game sequence includes two home games with Ayr United, with Thistle getting the better of the Honest Men on both of those occasions.

While Ayr earned a 1-0 win away at Airdrie on Friday night, that was just their second victory across the final nine league games of the season. It’s also worth pointing out that Scott Brown’s side have lost four of their last five matches away from their Somerset Park home, further suggesting that Partick look well placed to come through Tuesday night’s first leg relatively unscathed.

Over 0 Partick Thistle Goals

For the second and final leg of what is a Bet Builder double, I’m also more than happy to back Partick Thistle to score at least once on Tuesday night. The Jags tend to make their mark more often than, evidenced by the fact that they struck once or more in 28 of their 36 league games during the regular campaign. Dig a little deeper and it can be seen that Thistle have made the net bulge in 15 of their 18 league games at home this season, including 13 of their last 14. On top of all that, the hosts have landed a blow in each of their previous four meetings with Ayr this season.

That doesn’t bode well for an Ayr side that have found clean sheets hard to come by in recent times. In fact, Brown’s backline has been breached in all bar one of their of their last 13 league games, including six of their previous seven assignments away from their Ayrshire base. With that in mind, backing Thistle to fire holds plenty of appeal at Firhill on Tuesday night.
