Sean Dyche next manager sacked odds hint at Moyes return

After Everton endured a tough time in the Premier League last season – not least because of their overall deduction of eight points for two PSR breaches – things were never likely to be easy this time around.

Sean Dyche was always going to be near the top of the next manager sacked market, and after just two games of the new Premier League season, he’s now as short as 2/1 to be the next Premier League manager sacked.

Sean Dyche next manager sacked odds make him the runaway favourite

The 2/1 price – which translates to an implied probability of 33.3% – doesn’t really come as a surprise, given the combination of Everton’s poor transfer window and their rather turgid start to the season.

On the opening day, the Toffees slumped to defeat at home to Brighton, with the sending off of 39-year-old Ashley Young typical of where the club seems to be right now.

And last weekend, Dyche’s men showed very little intent against Spurs, who quite simply walked all over them, and did so without ever really getting out of third gear.

Where has it gone wrong for Sean Dyche?

When Sean Dyche entered the Premier League as a manager for the second time with Burnley in 2016, his no-nonsense approach sparked an awful lot of positivity, and not just from Clarets fans. Pundits, fans and neutrals alike hailed the way Dyche got Burnley to compete, leading them to a seventh-placed finish in 2017/18.

But his stock has fallen quite dramatically since then, especially after being sacked from Burnley in 2021/22's latter days, at a time when the Clarets still had a chance of avoiding the drop.

After some time out of the game, Dyche took the Goodison Park hot seat in February 2023, but he’s done little since besides battle relegation.

There are, of course, mitigating circumstances. He joined the club at a time when owner Farhad Moshiri and his fellow board members self-exiled from Goodison Park, after Evertonians ramped up their anti-board protests in January 2023.

Furthermore, Everton's troubles also stem from poor signings made by Dyche's predecessors. However, the buck always stops with the manager in this game, and in the event of new owners taking the reins any time soon, Dyche could well be the first victim of a ‘new broom'.

Other reasons behind Dyche’s favouritism?

Another likely reason behind Dyche’s position at the top of the ‘next manager sacked' market is the fact that David Moyes is reportedly interested in a return to the club, even if it’s on a short-term basis.

Moyes has been without a club since leaving West Ham at the end of the previous campaign, but he’s very much known as a man who can do a job in the Premier League.

He undoubtedly worked wonders during his time at the London Stadium, guiding a constantly relegation-battling Hammers side to successive top-seven finishes and a UEFA Europa Conference League trophy.

The Scotsman is also seen as something of an Everton legend, having held the managerial position at Goodison park for over a decade, during which he took Everton to a top-four finish and an FA Cup final.

Both of those things seem light years away right now. So if Dyche does receive his marching orders, then Moyes seems the most likely replacement, especially if the Everton hierarchy are looking for a quickfire solution to stop the rot.
