Young Boys are slowly becoming regulars in the Champions League, making their third group stage appearance in the last five seasons, although they have never progressed to the knockout phase. They reached this year’s competition via the playoffs, claiming a 3-0 aggregate victory over Maccabi Haifa.
The result is an extension of Young Boys’ fine start to the season as they are yet to taste defeat across all competitions. They are currently second in the Swiss Super League and head into Tuesday’s clash off the back of a 1-0 victory over Xamax in their previous fixture.
Young Boys have a fine record at home where they have won their last three matches across all competitions. The goals have flowed freely for Raphael Wicky’s men in that run with a 5-2 Super League victory over Winterthur among their results in that run.
RB Leipzig did not have to go through the playoffs and qualified for the Group Stage of the Champions League by virtue of their Bundesliga finish. The Germans will be looking to at least match last season’s feat when they reached the round of 16 before losing to eventual winners Manchester City.
Having begun the campaign with a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the DFL Super Cup, RB Leipzig appear to be getting better as the season progresses. They have won their last three matches, including a 3-0 victory over Augsburg in a Bundesliga fixture last Saturday.
One similarity with Young Boys is that RB Leipzig have also impressed going forward this season. Marco Rose’s men have scored at least three goals in their last three matches with a 5-1 victory over Stuttgart among their results in that run.
