BOTH Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will be looking to bounce back from their respective midweek defeats when the pair square off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Spurs were unable to build on their Etihad heroics last weekend when slumping to a 2-1 defeat at home to London rivals West Ham on Thursday night.
That setback means the Lillywhites have failed to win any of their last five league games, picking up just one point in the process.
As such, Tottenham’s bright start to the season under Ange Postecoglou is in danger of becoming a distant memory so they will be desperate to arrest their slide when Newcastle come to town.
Following a pair of impressive wins over Chelsea and Manchester United respectively, the Magpies were brought back down to earth with a bump when losing 3-0 at Everton on Thursday night.
Eddie Howe's side have dropped down to seventh place in the table but bouncing back with a victory on Sunday would see them leapfrog Tottenham in the top-flight standings.
Outright Betting
Despite losing each of their last three Premier League home games, Tottenham Hotspur are 23/20 favourites at Bet 365.
Newcastle United have won just one of their seven Premier League away games this season and the bookmakers’ odds suggest that trend will continue, with a Toon triumph trading at 21/10 (Bet 365) while the stalemate is on offer at 14/5 (Bet 365).
Betting Angles
Neither team makes great appeal in the 1X2 here so I'll go to the Bet Builder and throw together Over 1 Goal and both Cristian Romero and Bruno Guimarães to commit a foul at 4/5 (Bet 365).
Goals have been a regular feature in Tottenham fixtures this season, with 14 of their opening 15 games of the season generating a minimum of two match strikes.
Visitors Newcastle are not too far behind, with 11 of their 15 top-flight tussles this term breaking the 1.5 goal barrier, including six of their seven road trips.
As such, I’m prepared to side with at least two goals in north London on Saturday, but I’ll also go with both of the aforementioned players to get on the wrong side of the referee.
Spurs skipper Romero returned from suspension and found himself straight back in the referees notebook on Thursday night, meaning that the World Cup winner has committed 1+ fouls in five of his last eight Premier League appearances.
As for Newcastle's Bruno Guimarães, the all-action Brazilian has already clocked up eight yellow cards across his 21 appearances in all competitions this season, not to mention he is averaging 1.5 fouls per-game in the top-flight this term.
On a similar line of reasoning to the above, I'll also take it one step further and have a small play on both Romero and Guimarães to go into the book at 8/1 (PaddyPower).
The above-mentioned duo are no strangers to getting on the bad side of the referee and they will be among the prime candidates to be cautioned in what should be a keenly contested affair.
