Real Madrid play their third consecutive away fixture at the start of the Spanish La Liga season as they travel to the Estadio Benito Villamarin to face Real Betis. Real are aiming to bounce back from a draw last time out and should have the edge over Betis, who are winless this season.
Real Betis were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Cadiz in their previous La Liga fixture. They fought back from a goal down with Juanmi getting the equaliser midway through the second half and despite dominating the possession, couldn’t find the winner.
It may still be early days in the season but Real Betis have not show the level that saw them secure a sixth place finish last term. They are still seeking their first win of the campaign having also played out a 1-1 draw against Mallorca in their opening fixture.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men have made slow starts in their two matches this term, needing to come from behind both times. Forward players like Borja Iglesias and Loren Moron have also looked off colour at the start of the season.
Real Madrid are also coming off a draw as they were held 3-3 by Levante last time out in La Liga. Vinicius Junior netted a brace, including an 85th minute equaliser after Gareth Bale had opened the scoring early in the first half.
With renovations nearing completion at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid are beginning the season with three straight away fixtures. They are unbeaten after two matches having claimed a 4-1 victory at Alaves in their opening match.
Real Madrid have impressed going forward under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring seven times already this season with Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior all off the mark. They have however looked vulnerable at the back in the absence of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane with four goals conceded in two matches.
