Partick Thistle vs Inverness

, KO: 19:05 Mar 22, 2019, Firhill

Inverness are still dreaming of Scottish Cup glory after marching to the semi-finals but it's back to the grim reality of a scrap for Championship survival for Partick Thistle.

The Jags can at least take heart from coming so close to dumping Hearts out of the Cup in their quarter-final clash, losing 2-1 in a Tynecastle replay after having a strong penalty shout turned down late in the game.

That proved Gary Caldwell has some talented players at his disposal, not least the evergreen Scott McDonald, but his side remain in danger of a descent into League One.

Having drawn against drop rivals Falkirk last weekend in a game Caldwell insisted Partick should have wrapped up by half-time, the Jags remain in the relegation play-off slot.

The Bairns and Queen of the South are just a point ahead of them so there's still hope for the Firhill faithful and a win over Inverness would be massive for Partick's season.

The Jags have won just once in their last four league games but that run included games against leaders Ross County, in-form Dunfermline and that draw with Falkirk which should have been a win.

So Thistle's form is better than their results suggest and I've a feeling they might have enough to see off a Caley Thistle side with one eye on Hampden and their semi against Hearts.

With Partick at the foot of the table the odds in on a home win are pretty generous and they look great value at 31/20 with Unibet for the win.

Inverness are in decent form themselves, winning three of their last four games, and for a side that seemed a stick-on for draws earlier in the campaign, it's now five games since their last stalemate.

John Robertson's side have kept clean sheets in their last three league encounters and a repeat is available at 9/4 with Bet365.

But Partick won 2-1 in the Highlands when the teams last met and that suggests there could be goals in this one. Both teams to score is 10/11 with Bet 365 and if you double it with a Jags win the odds lengthen to 19/4 at 888 Sport. Over 2.5 goals also looks a good option at 6/5 with Ladbrokes.

I can see this being a tight game and a one-goal winning margin for either side looks attractive at 5/4 with Betway, given Inverness won 3-2 and 1-0 in the first two games between the sides this season.

There have been four or more bookings in every clash between Partick and Inverness this term so this one could also be feisty. I've yet to see any markets for cards but hopefully the bookies will price them up closer to the day of the game.

Veteran McDonald has given Thistle a cutting edge up front and should be a good option for anytime scorer at 2/1 with Bet 365. If you fancy the Aussie to break the deadlock, he's 11/2 with most firms.

For Inverness, try winger Aaron Doran, who has been in fine form of late and netted the late winner in the Cup win over Dundee United. The Irishman is 10/1 with most firms to score first and looks overpriced at 15/4 with Bet 365 to net at any time.

I tipped Dundee United to beat Inverness in the Cup, only for Caley Thistle to snatch a win at the death, so I'm hoping the Highlanders don't bust my coupon again here.
