Paris Saint-Germain vs Marseille
French Super Cup, KO: 18:00 , Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, Kuwait
The latest instalment of Le Classique takes place at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait, where Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille clash for the Trophee des Champions on Thursday.
This will be the first time the arch-rivals go head-to-head in the French Super Cup since 2020–21 and the third meeting between the sides in the competition, with one win apiece from the previous two encounters.
PSG are aiming to lift the trophy for a fourth successive year and a 15th time overall, having also claimed the silverware in 11 of the last 12 seasons, with the only exception coming in 2021–22, when they were beaten by Lille.
Les Parisiens’s dominance in domestic football is undeniable, further underlined by a clean sweep of all available honours last season, including a Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double, meaning Marseille secured a place in this year’s Super Cup by virtue of finishing second in the league.
Luis Enrique’s men carry solid momentum into this encounter, having gone unbeaten in their last six outings, a run that includes a penalty shoot-out triumph over Flamengo in Qatar to lift the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The only fixture PSG failed to win during that stretch was a goalless Champions League draw against Athletic Club, while their most recent outing ended in a 2–1 victory over local rivals Paris at the weekend, and that result leaves Les Parisiens second in the Ligue 1 table and just one point off the summit.
Marseille, meanwhile, arrive on the back of a disappointing result, having suffered a 2–0 home defeat to Nantes on Sunday, though Roberto De Zerbi’s side remain third in the standings, seven points behind PSG.
Prior to that loss, Les Phoceens had put together a three-game winning run, meaning their momentum heading into Thursday’s clash is not entirely poor.
Marseille are featuring in the French Super Cup for the first time since losing to PSG in 2021–22, although they did win the previous such meeting between the sides on penalties in 2010–11, before lifting the trophy for the third and most recent time the following season.
How the bookies see it: PSG over three times as likely
Unsurprisingly, PSG are heavy favourites and are priced at 4/7 with Ladbrokes to claim a 15th French Super Cup title within regulation time.
That represents more than three times the implied probability of a Marseille victory in 90 minutes, which is available at 4/1, while a draw is priced at 4.20, further reflecting the perceived unlikelihood of an upset.
Head to head: PSG revenge?
PSG have dominated recent meetings, winning five of the last six encounters, though Marseille did come out on top in the most recent clash, claiming a 1–0 league victory at the Stade Velodrome in September.
Player to watch: Ousmane Dembele to haunt Les Phoceens again?
Ousmane Dembele was unavailable for that defeat in September but is expected to feature here and will be keen to make his mark, having netted a stoppage-time winner in last year’s Trophee des Champions.
The current Ballon d’Or holder also struck the decisive goal in PSG’s weekend win over Paris, and the 1/1 on offer at bet365 for him to score again holds clear appeal.

Possible lineups
PSG will be without Achraf Hakimi, who remains at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, while Matvey Safonov is sidelined with a hand issue, and Lee Kang-in is also doubtful due to a thigh strain.
Marseille have their own concern in goal, with Ruben Blanco nursing a knee problem, although Amine Gouiri’s recent return from a lengthy injury lay-off offers a boost at the other end of the pitch.
Paris Saint-Germain: Chevalier; Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Pacho, Hernandez; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Ramos, Dembele, Barcola
Marseille: Rulli; Pavard, Balerdi, Aguerd; Weah, O’Riley, Nadir, Palmieri; Greenwood, Paixao; Aubameyang
Anything else catch the eye?
PSG have lost just three of the last 13 meetings between the sides, with only two of those fixtures producing over 3.5 goals.
In addition, only one of Marseille’s last five matches has seen both teams find the net, while Les Parisiens have kept clean sheets in each of their last three French Super Cup appearances.
Taking those trends into account, a cautious play on PSG to win or draw and under 3.5 goals looks attractive at 4/5 with Ladbrokes.
PSG have also scored at least twice in 10 of their last 12 Trophee des Champions outings, making over 1.5 team goals a solid option at 4/7 with Betano.
