NOTTINGHAM FOREST and Burnley round off the Premier League weekend when they square off at the City Ground on Monday night.
After avoiding relegation with a game to spare last season, the Tricky Trees will be hoping to avoid a dose of the dreaded ‘second season syndrome' this term.
However, the early signs have been promising for Steve Cooper’s side, who secured a famous 1-0 win at Chelsea prior to the international break.
That means Forest have taken six points from their opening four fixtures of the season and they will fancy their chances of adding to that tally when Burnley come to town.
The Clarets have kicked off life back in the big time with three defeats, the most recent of which was a 5-2 trouncing at home to Tottenham, in a game that brought up both of my Turf Moor tips.
As such, Vincent Kompany's side are propping up the early Premier League table so they will be desperate to finally get off the mark in West Bridgford.
Outright Betting
Nottingham Forest, who have avoided defeat in 15 of their 20 Premier league home games since being promoted, are 21/20 favourites with William Hill.
Burnley are as big as 12/5 (Bet 365) to claim their first win of the season while a share of the City Ground spoils has been priced up at 5/2 (William Hill).
Betting Angles
Steve Cooper’s side will have their backers here at odds-against quotes but I’m going to opt for an alternative angle by siding with Nottingham Forest’s man of the moment Taiwo Awoniyi in the To Score Or Assist Market at 7/5 (PaddyPower).
The bustling Nigerian has made a blistering start to the season, having made the net bulge in each of Forest’s opening three games of the season, most notably scoring away at both Arsenal and Manchester United in the process.
It’s also worth pointing out that the aforementioned Awoniyi provided the assist for Anthony Elanga’s goal in the Tricky Trees’ 1-0 triumph at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago, and there is plenty of scope for him to have goal involvement here against bottom of the table Burnley.
As already alluded to, the Clarets have had a bit of a baptism of fire upon their return to the top-flight, and that can be attributed to a trio of patchy defensive performances
While the season is still in its infancy, Vincent Kompany’s side have leaked a league-high 11 goals across their opening three fixtures of the season, conceding at least three times on each occasion.
With all that in mind, as well as the fact that this particular bet would have paid out in each of Nottingham Forest’s four matches this season so far, siding with the same selection at the City Ground on Monday night stands out at 7/5 (PaddyPower).
Given that Burnley have been leaking goals at an alarming rate, I'm also going to chance a pair of longshots and have a nibble on both the 10/1 and 75/1 on offer with PaddyPower for the aforementioned Awoniyi to hit either a brace or a hat-trick.
Despite their early session struggles, the visitors are unlikely to sacrifice their forward-thinking principles here, meaning that their defensive inefficiencies come to the fore once again, meaning that in-form Forest man Awoniyi could be worth some loose change to fill his boots at a couple of bold prices.
