MOTHERWELL host St Mirren with both sides hoping to stay in the top six after an encouraging start to the campaign.
The Lanarkshire side advanced into the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup last week where they will face Rangers after a narrow 2-1 win over Dundee United.
And they have only lost two games this season in all competitions – and they were away to Rangers and in-form Aberdeen – so it's been a satisfying start to the season for Stuart Kettlewell's men.
St Mirren produced one of their best displays of the season last week when they defeated Hearts in Paisley.
You get the feeling with Saints that their European adventures this season – their first for 37 years – distracted them a fair bit as they look to try and emulate last season's efforts.
They went through a spell of four defeats in a row which must have been a concern, but they have recovered to grab a pair of 2-2 draws with Dundee and Kilmarnock before that important win against Hearts last week – their first success since the opening day of the season against Hibs.
How the bookies view it: Well edge it
Motherwell are favourites here and can be backed at 7/5 with William Hill.
St Mirren will gave their backers too at 2/1 with Paddy Power. The draw is 123/10 with William Hill.
Recent head to heads: Saints have upper hand
Last season, St Mirren won the first couple of meetings before the last two games saw the points shared.
Only once in the past 17 meetings has any side won by more than a goal.
Players to watch: Toying with them
It took Zach Robinson 11 games to open his Well account, which he managed last week against Dundee United in the Cup. He is 11/5 to score anytime with bet365.
St Murren striker Toyosi Olusanya has been in great form for the Buddies this term and the former Middlesbrough striker has six goals already this season and has scored in his last three games. He is of interest at 13/5 to score anytime with bet365.
Predicted line-ups:
Motherwell still have a lengthy injury list with Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, Callum Slattery, Filip Stuparevic, Johnny Koutroumbis, Sam Nicholson , Shane Blaney and Harry Paton all missing.
Saints are likely to be without Alex Iacovitti, Richard Taylor and Conor McMenamin. Shaun Rooney has been suspended by his own club after an ‘incident' in Glasgow.
Motherwell: Oxborough, McGinn, Gordon, Casey, O'Donnell, Zdravkovski, Halliday, Wilson, Miller, Maswanhise; Robinson.
St Mirren: Balcombe, Tamser, Taylor, Gogic, Fraser, Brown, O'Hara, Phillips, Boyd-Munce, Olusanya, Mandron
Anything else catch the eye?
This looks like a nailed-on draw with both sides evenly matched and both in a good place after wins last week.
Historically and in recent times, there has been little between the clubs and the fact that they are fifth and sixth this season isn't a coincidence.
Both will be pushing for a top six spot and have enough not to get sucked into any kind of relegation dogfight. And both would probably settle for a point.
Motherwell's ;last four games and St Mirren's last four games have all seen both teams score and plenty of goals. Take a chance on over 3.5 goals at 13/5 with BetVictor.
