Manchester City vs Feyenoord

, KO: 20:00 Nov 26, 2024, Etihad Stadium
Feyenoord

Manchester City's UEFA Champions League campaign hasn't gone to plan so far and they need a win against Feyenoord to get back on track for an automatic place in the last 16.

Pep Guardiola's side remain the favourites to lift the European Cup this season but they've only won two of their four games so far in the revamped league phase and have lost five in a row in all competitions during an incredible slump.

A 0-0 draw with Inter Milan at the Etihad on matchday one bust the coupon of Slips Tips and countless other punters but they got back on track by battering Slovan Bratislava and Slavia Prague.

The wheels then came off with a shock 4-1 loss on the road at Sporting Lisbon, a result that brought up one of our Super Singles, and it was part of a horror run that saw Guardiola lose four in a row for the first time as a manager.

He then ended the uncertainty over his future by penning a new two-year deal but there was no response from the players as they were thrashed 4-0 at home by Spurs on Saturday, with two bets landing for me.

That will give hope to a Feyenoord side who have responded well to a 4-0 battering at home by Bayer Leverkusen in their Champions League opener.

The Dutch side have since beaten Girona and Benfica, although their last Champions League outing was a disappointment as they lost 3-1 at home to RB Salzburg.

How the bookies view it: City red-hot favourites

Despite their awful form, City are Betano's  2/11 hot favourites to bounce back with a win. Feyenoord are 12/1 rank outsiders and the draw pays 6/1.

Head to head: Guardiola looking to complete the hat-trick

These sides locked horns in the Champions League group stage seven years ago and Man City came out on top in both games, following up a 4-0 victory in Rotterdam with a 1-0 win at the Etihad.

Players to watch: Foden the Euro talisman

This game comes before a huge Premier League clash with Liverpool but Guardiola should still field a strong team as Manchester City can't afford another slip. Phil Foden has scored in three Champions League games this term and is 6/5 with Bet365 to add to that tally here.

Brazilian midfielder Igor Paixao has chipped in with three goals for Feyenoord this term and could be a good long-odds option in this game. He's 11/2 for anytime scorer at Bet365 and 20/1 to net from outside the box.

Probable line-ups

Mateo Kovacic is a doubt for Manchester City after missing the clash with Spurs while Ruben Dias and Rodri remain on the sidelines. Wingers Jack Grealish and Matheus Nunes were both fit enough for the bench at the weekend so are in contention.

Feyenoord are missing some players, with star forwards Santiago Gimenez and Ayase Ueda ruled out along with Jordan Lotomba and Ibrahim Osman. The Dutch side also have doubts over Justin Bijlow and Quilindschy Hartman. Chris-Kevin Nadje is suspended after his red card against Salzburg.

Manchester City: Ederson, Gvardiol, Akanji, Ake, Lewis, Stones, Silva, Savinho, De Bruyne, Foden, Haaland.

Feyenoord: Wellenreuther, Bueno,  Trauner, Smal, Hancko, Nieuwkoop, Hwang In-Beom, Timber, Paixao, Ivanusec, Carranza.

Anything else catch the eye?

With Feyenoord hit by some many injuries, this should be the game where Manchester City get back to winning ways. It's tricky finding value with the English side such heavy favourites but a home win with BTTS pays 8/5 at Betano and stands a chance based on City's terrible defending of late. Backing the Premier League champions to win both halves also appeals at 5/4 with the same firm.

Guardiola's side have won 15-0, 7-1 and 11-1 on the corner count in their last three European games so that's another market worth looking . Over 7.5 City corners pays 31/20 at Unibet while backing them at -4 in that handicap is 6/5 with the same firm.

On-loan Wolves defender Hugo Bueno faces a tough night against City's speedy forwards and the Spaniard could be worth backing for a card when the bookies price that market up.
