Lyon vs Brondby

, KO: 17:45 Sep 30, 2021, Groupama Stadium
Brondby

Lyon will be looking to overcome their lengthy injury list when they host Brondby at the Groupama Stadium in their second Group A fixture in the UEFA Europa League. The injuries could make for a tricky encounter but the French team have experience at this stage of the competition and still retain enough quality to get past a struggling Brondby side.

Lyon made a fine start to the Europa League with a 2-0 victory away at Rangers. Karl Toko Ekambi opened the scoring midway through the first half before James Tavernier put through his own net to double the lead.

Manager Peter Bosz is dealing with a growing injury list with Islam Slimani, Moussa Dembele and defender Jerome Boateng among a number of players currently sidelined. However, Lyon appear to be to be coping well with their injury problems with just one defeat in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Lyon have a solid home record and have claimed two wins from their last three matches at the Groupama Stadium. However, they often struggle at the back and have kept just one clean sheet in their last five matches across all competitions.

Making their first appearance in a major European competition since the 2008/09 season, Brondby began their Europa League campaign with a 0-0 home draw with Sparta Prague. It was a drab affair with few chances as the Danish team finished with just one attempt on target.

It has not been the best start to the season for the reigning Danish Superliga champions who have claimed just two wins from their first 10 domestic fixtures. Niels Frederiksen’s men also struggle on their travels with three defeats from their last five away matches.

Brondby have also found things difficult on the continent this season as they are winless in their last three European engagements. They were beaten in their last two Champions League matches before crashing to the Europa League.

How the bookies view it

The bookies have installed Lyon as overwhelming favourites for the win at 6/25 with novibet. SBK is offering 29/2 for an unlikely Brondby victory while a draw is also set at odds of 31/5 by SBK.
