Leicester City vs Everton

, KO: 15:00 Sep 21, 2024, King Power Stadium
Everton

It's a bit early in the season to be branding games as relegation six-pointers but this clash between Leicester City and Everton is hugely important to the survival hopes of both sides.

The Foxes started the season as favourites for the drop in the Premier League relegation odds but that was mainly because they had the threat of a points deduction hanging over them.

Steve Cooper's men escaped that punishment but remain odds-on to go down after taking just two points from their first four games after winning promotion.

Last week's 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace would have felt like a defeat after they threw away a 2-0 lead in a game where two bets landed for me.

But at least they didn't end up losing the game from such a commanding position – a fate that Everton have suffered in their last two outings.

Those 3-2 losses to Bournemouth and Aston Villa have left a dark cloud hanging over the pointless Toffees and Sean Dyche badly needs a win to spark their season into life.

Everton move into their shiny new stadium next season but if they keep up this kind of form it will end up hosting Championship football.

How the bookies view it: Foxes just have the edge

This is a tough one to call with both sides in poor form but Leicester are Betano's 6/4 favourites with home advantage. Everton are priced at 8/5 and the draw pays 12/5.

Recent head to head: Toffees ahead but only by a nose

There hasn't been much between these sides in recent years, with the last 11 meetings producing four Everton wins, three Leicester City victories and four draws. It ended in a 2-2 stalemate when Everton last came to the King Power Stadium two seasons ago.

Players to watch: Vardy out to pile on the pain

With Everton's defence leaking goals, veteran Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy will be licking his lips heading into this game. His goal at Selhurst Park last weekend made it two for the campaign and he's 31/20 for another strike here with Betano.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored in his last two outings for Everton and keeping him fit will be key to their survival hopes. The striker is 2/1 at Betano to make it three games in a row with a goal.

Probable line-ups

New signing Odsonne Edouard comes into contention for Leicester after the loanee missed last week's game against parent club Palace. Patson Daka and Jakub Stolarczyk remain out.

Everton veteran Seamus Coleman is a doubt while key defender Jarrad Branthwaite remains out along with new signing Armando Broja. Illness left Dyche without several first-team regulars for their EFL Cup loss to Southampton on penalties and he will be hoping some of those who missed out are now well enough to return.

Leicester City: Hermansen, Justin, Faes, Okoli, Kristiansen, Ndidi ,Winks, Mavididi, Ayew, Skipp, Vardy.

Everton: Pickford, O'Brien, Tarkowski, Young, Mykolenko, McNeil, Ndiaye, Harrison, Gueye, Iroegbunam, Calvert-Lewin.

Anything else catch the eye?

Although these sides have both been involved in some thrillers of late, this match could be tense and tight with so much at stake. That makes the half-time draw appealing at 23/20 with Betfred while under 2.5 goals is shorter at 5/6.

With both sides desperate for a victory we could see a few tasty tackles and a bit of needle. Over 42.5 booking points pays 5/6 at Betfred and I also like the evens on offer at Bet365 for both sides to pick up two or more cards.

Dwight McNeill is always a threat for Everton with his long-range shooting and he scored last time out at Villa Park. The former Burnley man is 6/5 at Betfred just to have a shot on target here and that looks decent.
