Estonia vs Wales

, KO: 19:45 Oct 11, 2021, Lilleküla Stadium
Wales

WALES remain on course to finish second in Group E of World Cup qualifying but need to avoid another slip-up against Estonia in Tallinn.

From the moment the draw was made, it always looked like the Welsh would be in a battle with the Czech Republic for the right to be runners-up to mighty Belgium.

That's the way it has panned out and Robert Page's men are in pole position after a battling 2-2 draw with the Czechs in Prague last time out.

Like our man Mark, I fancied Wales to lose that game but they bounced back from a horror blunder by keeper Danny Ward to claim a deserved share of the spoils.

That came after a 1-0 win over the same opponents earlier in the group and it kept the Dragons level on points with Jaroslav Silhavy's side having played a game fewer.

But a defeat in Estonia could leave the group wide open again and Wales won't be taking their rivals lightly after being held to a 0-0 draw in Cardiff.

The free-scoring Estonians beat Belarus 2-0 last time out and another home win here would leave them just a point behind the Welsh.

How the bookies view it

Wales are odds-on favourites for the win at a best 8/13 for SBK while Estonia are as big as 32/5 with the same firm which looks a bit overpriced. The stalemate pays 37/13.

Head to head

These nations have only met twice and the Welsh are unbeaten so far. Neither match was a thriller with a 1-0 Welsh win in 2019 followed by that drab stalemate earlier in this group (below).

Players to watch

It was Daniel James who scored Wales' equaliser in Prague and the Leeds winger was a huge threat throughout. His pace could cause Estonia problems and James is 12/5 at Bet365 to net in Estonia.

Erik Sorga was on target for Estonia in their win over Belarus and looks decent value for a goal here at 4/1 with Paddy Power.

Anything else catch the eye?

I went for goals when these nations met in Cardiff as they had been flying in with Estonia earlier in the group. So it was sod's law that we didn't see a single strike in that game.

But 23 goals have been scored in Estonia's five qualifiers so I can see there being a few in this game, especially as Wales will be going all out for the win. Over 2.5 goals pays 25/19 at SBK while both teams to score looks a bit overpriced at 7/5 with Mansionbet.

Most of Wales' games in this group have been close, with a one-goal winning margin coming up in two of their games. Backing a one-goal winning margin for either side here pays 7/5 with McBookie.

Harry Wilson is the creative force for Wales and should deliver most of their corners and free-kicks. He's 31/10 with McBookie for an assist and that could be worth a punt.
