DUNDEE begin life in the Championship and under new manager Gary Bowyer with a home game against a Hamilton Accies team also under new management and with a threadbare squad.
The Dens Park side were relegated last term after the Mark McGhee experiment – an appointment that correctly baffled everyone – predictably failed to save them.
However, they have gone down what looks like a more exciting road this time with former Blackburn Rovers boss Bowyer tempted to Tayside in what looks like something of a coup.
He's been quiet so far in the transfer market so far with only Wrexham's Tyler French brought into Dens Park and they will have to cope without captain and talisman Charlie Adam, who left
But that's nothing compared with the upheaval with the Lanarkshire side. Stuart Taylor walked out to be replaced by former Hibs and Dundee United midfielder Rankin, who has his work cut out all right.
Accies have lost ten players including end of loans and replaced them with one so far – Jonny Ngandu of Coventry City. Rankin should struggle to get a team together for this week.
That won't bother Dundee one bit who still have the nucleus of last season's Premiership squad.
How the bookies view it
Although these sides will be in the same league, Dundee are strong 4/6 favourites with Betfred. Accies can be backed at 19/5 with William Hill and the draw is 3/1 with bet365.
Recent head to heads
The teams last met in the top flight four years ago with Accies winning the last meeting 1-0 at Dens Park.- a match which relegated Dundee as can be seen below.
Players to watch
Zak Rudden didn't quite set the heather on fire last season after an excellent first half of the season with Partick Thistle and he scored in their 4-0 friendly win at Peterhead last week.
Steve Lawson netted a double for Hamilton in their 4-0 midweek friendly win at Tranent Juniors and the Togo international could be Accies' best chance of getting something here.
Anything else catch the eye?
It's hard to see Hamilton being anywhere near competitive with Dundee given the upheaval at New Douglas Park and new management team.
They appear to be understaffed – like plenty of teams at this stage of the season – and they are facing a Dundee team who still have plenty of big-hitters from last season.
The 4/6 is marginally too short for a single on the home win, but Dundee can cover the half time and full time market at 13/8 with Boylesports and they will want to out on a show for their new boss.
Back them to win minus a goal on the handicaps at 17/10 with Betfred.
