Dundee United vs Celtic

, KO: 17:45 , Tannadice
Celtic

Celtic hit top form in their last game and will be looking to pick up where they left off when they head to Tannadice for a League Cup clash with Dundee United.

The Hoops thrashed Kilmarnock 5-1 last Sunday, with all three recommended bets landing for me, and it was their best performance for a long time.

They are already five points clear of bitter rivals Rangers in the SPFL Premiership title race but attention now turns to the League Cup.

Celtic lost to St Mirren in last season's final and will be desperate to get their hands back on trophy.

But Tannadice is never an easy place to visit and the Hoops lost twice there last season, first under Wilfried Nancy and then when Martin O'Neill returned.

Those wins showed what Dundee United are capable of on their day and the Tangerines also held Rangers to a 1-1 draw in their Premiership opener.

Hearts then dished out a 4-0 beating at Tynecastle last Sunday so Jim Goodwin will be looking from a response from his players in the cup.

How the bookies view it: Hoops heavy favourites

Celtic are just 2/7 with Bet365 to reach the quarter-finals and a win inside 90 minutes isn't much bigger at 1/2. Dundee United are 5/2 to come out on top and 17/4 to get the job done without extra time. The draw at 90 minutes pays 16/5.

Recent head to head: United eye Tannadice hat-trick

Tannadice hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Celtic of late, with just one win on their last four visits. Dundee United are out to make it a treble on Tayside after 2-1 and 2-0 wins on home turf last term.

Players to watch: Hogh on a high

Celtic new boy Kasper Hogh was the hero last weekend, netting a first-half hat-trick against Killie. The former Bodo/Glimt star is evens at Bet365 for anytime scorer and that looks good value.

Lachlan Rose looks like a decent signing for Dundee United and the Aussie already has three League Cup goals to his name this season. He's 3/1 at Bet365 to add to that tally.

Probable line-ups

Dundee United look set to be without Dario Naamo and Miller Thomson due to injuries while new defender Kevin Ciubotaru could land a debut.

Celtic winger Haissem Hassan is also in contention for a start after completing his move from Real Oviedo. Liam Scales also returns from suspension while Alistair Johnston is set to miss out with an injury.

Dundee United: Walton, Ferry, Esselink, Forbes, Rawlins, Sevelj, Tait, Agyei, Sapsford, Rose, Randall.

Celtic: Sinisalo, Donovan, Trusty, Carter-Vickers, McGregor, Engels, Nygren, Yang, Hogh, Duran.

Anything else catch the eye?

Celtic were superb at Rugby Park but Kilmarnock gave them so much space to play and I doubt Goodwin will set up in the same open way as Neil McCann.

The Hoops may have to show more patience in this game and backing most goals to come after the break pays 21/20 at Bet365.

But if Celtic play with the same pace and intensity, it's hard to see them slipping up and I like the 11/8 on offer at Bet365 for them to score in each half.

All three meetings between these sides saw at least 13 corners and there were 15 when United hosted Rangers a fortnight ago.

That makes the corner markets worth a look once the bookies finally get round to pricing up that market.
