DUMBARTON took a huge step towards staying in League One on Monday night and they will fancy their chances of completing the job at The Rock on Thursday in the play-off final second leg.
Jim Duffy's side-mounted a spirited comeback to get back from going a goal behind in the interval to going on to take a hugely significant 3-1 first-leg advantage with a home game to come.
The Sons were good value for their lead thanks to goals from Ryan McGeever, Tomas Brindley and Morgyn Neill, with midfielder Ross Forbes pulling the strings. Gary Naysmith's side were sitting pretty at the break before a second-half collapse at Ainslie Park.
Now the Citizens have it all to do in Dumbarton although they can at least take consolation from the fact that most of their best work is often done away from the capital – they won seven of their nine away games in League Two and their only defeat was against runaway champions Queen's Park.
How the bookies view it
After that first leg win Edinburgh, Dumbarton are narrow odds-on to win now and you can get 19/20 with 888Sport. City can be backed at 11/4 with McBookie.com and the draw is 5/2 with Unibet. Dumbarton are 1/25 to win the tie and stay in the league with Skybet and the visitors are 9/1.
Recent head to heads
Dumbarton won the first leg 3-1 as mentioned and that's been the only recent meeting between the teams. You need to go back to the 1930s for when the original Edinburgh City was in the Scottish League for those meetings.
Players to watch
Ross Forbes set up all three of Dumbarton's goals in Edinburgh. He doesn't score many himself, but his deliveries are excellent and two of their three goals netted were scored by Sons defenders. They'll get chances from his set pieces against and Morgyn Neill – who scored one of them – is a danger.
Blair Henderson has been Edinburgh City's stand-out player for years now and he's scored 38 goals in 52 league starts for them. Although he hasn't been as prolific this season, he's always a threat.
Anything else catch the eye?
With City having to go for it, they will fling everything at their hosts. That should give Dumbarton plenty of opportunities and the 10/11 with McBookie for them to score two or more is tempting, especially since Dumbarton have hit form at the right time with three wins in their last four games.
City like to attack and are set up for goals. They should at least manage to net on Thursday and a home win with both teams to score at 13/5 must have a chance with McBookie again.
