Chelsea vs Manchester United

, KO: 12:30 , Stamford Bridge
Manchester United

Manchester United will look to bounce back from yet another disappointing result as they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in the lunchtime kickoff on Saturday.

Manchester United failed to bounce back from their 4-1 thrashing against Como in the Champions League as they were beaten 0-3 at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend.

That extends the Red Devils’ winless run to eight matches in all competitions (W0-D3-L5), with Michael Carrick’s visitors languishing in 16th position in the Premier League table, just a point outside the relegation zone.

Chelsea looked to have turned a corner following the international break, as they thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge before winning 0-2 in Merseyside against Everton.

However, Xabi Alonso’s hosts suffered a rare defeat at home to Spurs last weekend, before exiting the EFL Cup in midweek on penalties against Liverpool at Anfield – on an evening I landed a 3/4 winner.

How the bookies view it: Chelsea favourites

Chelsea are favourites to return to winning ways on Saturday, with bet365 pricing a home success at 5/6.

Manchester United are 3/1 to end their eight-match winless run in all competitions, whilst the draw is 14/5.

Head to head: United with the recent edge

Chelsea have struggled against Manchester United in recent seasons, with the Blues winning just two of the previous 12 meetings (W2-D6-L4).

The Red Devils did the double over Chelsea last season, including a 0-1 victory at Stamford Bridge in April.

Players to watch: Card for Santos on his return to the Bridge?

Andrey Santos will be making his first return to Stamford Bridge after leaving Chelsea for Manchester United in the summer.

The Brazilian has been booked in each of his last three appearances for Manchester United, and he looks like decent value at 15/8 to be shown a card once again on Saturday.

Predicted line-ups:

Chelsea will be without the injured Emi Martinez, Reece James, Maxenxe Lacroix, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro, whilst Pep Chavarria and Jorrel Hato are doubts.

Manchester United will miss the injured Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Dorgu, Benjamin Sesko and Marcus Rashford, while Luke Shaw is a doubt.

Chelsea: Penders, Acheampong, Fofana, Colwill, Neto, Henderson, Caicedo, Palestra, Palmer, Rogers, Welbeck

Manchester United: Lammens, Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Heaven, Baleba, Santos, Diallo, Fernandes, Cunha, Mbuemo

Anything else catch the eye?

Given their horrendous run of form they’re on, Chelsea are tempting at 5/6 to claim all three points, but I can’t put too much confidence into backing them given their own inconsistencies.

The Blues’ opening eight Premier League fixtures this season have averaged an eye-catching 4.00 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in six (75%) of them, only keeping one clean sheet and failing to score just once also.

With each of Manchester United’s last three road trips in the Premier League producing goals at both ends, I’m happy to combine Both Teams to Score with Over 2.5 Goals, which pays 5/6 at bet365.
