Falkirk vs Celtic

, KO: 13:00 , Falkirk Stadium
Celtic

Celtic are having another rollercoaster season but they can open up a seven-point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership if they win on the road in Falkirk.

The Hoops have lost four of their five European games this season and also suffered back-to-back defeats to bitter rivals Rangers in league and cup.

But their only other dropped points domestically came in midweek when Martin O'Neill's men were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Dundee United.

With title rivals Rangers and Hearts both in League Cup action this weekend, Celtic have the chance to stretch their lead at the summit.

But it won't be easy against a Falkirk team who have hit form, with the Bairns winning their last three games to move into the top six.

That's where they finished last season after winning promotion and John McGlynn's men have found some consistency again after a high turnover of players in the summer.

With the champions still looking unconvincing in defence, Falkirk will fancy their chances of keeping their good run going.

How the bookies view it: Falkirk overpriced at 17/4

Despite their fine recent form, Falkirk have been written off for this one, with Bet365 pricing them at 17/4. Celtic are 2/9 hot favourites and even the draw is pretty big at 9/2.

Recent head to head: Ten in a woe for Bairns

Falkirk always set up to have a go, no matter the opposition, but that plan has backfired against Celtic, who have won the last 10 meetings. It was close when the Hoops last came calling, though, with a scrappy goal from Benjamin Nygren sealing a 1-0 win.

Players to watch: Hassan a dangerman

Celtic looked much better in the second half against Dundee United after Haissem Hassan and Jota came off the bench to provide genuine width. The Egyptian's pace and trickery down the right set up plenty of chances and he's 5/2 for an assist here. Backing him for a first Celtic goal is priced at 9/4.

Jacob Murrell has settled in at Falkirk after a slow start and has netted three times in his last three games. The forward is 6/4 to score or assist here while backing him for over 1.5 efforts on target is bigger at 11/4.

Probable line-ups

Celtic remain without Alistair Johnston and Joel van den Berg while Yang Hyun-jun is an injury doubt. Auston Trusty could return after compassionate leave.

Falkirk still have injury issues, with Leon McCann, Joe Gardner, Aodhan Doherty, Ethan Laidlaw, Keelan Adams and Aidan Nesbitt likely to sit this one out.

Falkirk: Bain, Strain, Neilson, Henderson, Tanser, Krauhaus, Spencer, Ross, Barbrook, Eames, Murrell.

Celtic: Johnstone, Donovan, Murray, Scales, Tierney, McGregor, Baur, Nygren, Hassan, Jota, Duran.

Anything else catch the eye?

Celtic still look decidedly fragile in defence and with Falkirk in good form we should see goals at both ends in this one.

Combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals only pays 5/6 at Bet365 but over 1.5 first-half strikes is better at 11/10.

Falkirk midfielder Owen Eames has managed a shot on target in three of his last five games so he could be worth backing at 9/4 to test Hoops keeper Sam Johnstone.

Both teams should set up to attack and that could lead to plenty of corners. Over 10.5 flag kicks pay 10/11 with Bet365 while over 5.5 first-half corners is bigger at 11/8.
