Lyon will hope to get their title challenge back on track as they face Brest in a French Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.
Rudy Garcia’s men are coming off an unlikely home defeat last time out as they were beaten 2-1 by Montpellier. They could have gone top with a victory but defeat means they have now been overtaken in second place by fast rising PSG.
Lyon had been in good form in recent weeks having claimed five straight wins prior to the defeat against Montpellier. They will view that result as a blip and will be keen to put it behind them and make a swift return to winning ways.
Brest will be hoping to build some confidence after holding Ligue 1 leaders Lille to a 0-0 draw last time out. Their form in recent weeks has been poor with just one win from their last seven league matches.
Olivier Dall'Oglio's men have lost 12 top flight matches this season and their inconsistency means they have failed to put together a string of good results to boost their league position. The Pirates have also failed to make their home matches count with two defeats in three outings, although they did claim a 2-1 win over Bordeaux, the last time they played at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.
How the bookies view it
Despite last week’s defeat to Montpellier, Lyon are still considered favourites among bookies to claim the win. Novibet is backing the visitors at 13/25 for a victory while Brest are considered outsiders with betfair offering 6/1 for a win and SBK paying 19/5 for a draw.
With five wins from their last six matches, I am tempted to back Lyon to return to winning ways on Friday.
Head to head
Brest have never beaten Lyon in nine attempts with the visitors claiming three wins while the other six have ended in stalemates. The reverse fixture at the Groupama Stadium ended 2-2 which is the best result Brest have ever gotten in a home clash against Lyon.
Players to watch
Karl Toko Ekambi and Memphis Depay have been the most prolific goalscorers for Lyon having netted 13 and 11 goals respectively. Depay is the second leading goalscorer in Ligue 1 and is valued at 23/20 to score anytime by BetVictor.
Brest will be looking to Steve Mounie, who has scored twice in his last three matches. The striker is priced at 7/2 by betfair in the anytime goalscorer market.
Anything else catch the eye?
The goals market could offer some value here with Lyon producing over 3.5 goals in three of their last four away matches. A similar outcome is priced at 13/10 at BetVictor while Skybet is paying 11/8 for the visitors to score 3 or more goals.
Lyon have also led at half time in four of their last five away matches, so there could be some value in backing them to claim a first half win. Sporting Index has Rudy Garcia’s men at 31/10 to win the first half 1-0.
